I know Dad will back me up on this, and others who visited the town of Withernsea in the mid 1980's.
Horse racing simulators are not a new thing. Some 20 years ago, in Pastimes in Withernsea, they had a machine that was basically an 8 foot tall tower, with 4 TV screens built into it at the top, one on each of the 4 sides. At lower levels were multiple coin slots like the 2p roulette wheel machines, again, a bank of coin slots on each of the 4 sides. You stuck your money in, the race played, and winnings came out of a hole near to the coin entry bank.
I recall a bigger version in Bridlington around that time that had individual player terminals around it similar to todays Party Time set-ups, that would have upto 12 players. This worked on a single coin slot and a button was pressed to select a horse. Think it was 10p a go but you could play all the horses at the same time like the roulette games. I can't remember what the jackpot was. £3 I would expect. Odds on the horses were 2/1, 3/1, 5/1, 8/1, 12/1 and 30/1.
It was out of my league for gaming at those stakes as I was still playing 1p and 2p games.
Great times back then. When Pastimes lived up to it's name and had a fair few videogames. Now, just completely fruit machines.

Bet it doesn't run like the old one tho CC, if you switched it off then on, you'd guarentee a win as Red (2/1) always won first race. WOOHOOOO 20p 10p profit!!!... give me 6 hours of resetting (without anyone noticing) and I might make £20 lol

I still have my derby owners club card that ive had for years. These were out in France a few years back and to my suprise the card still worked on the uk version ! The card holds all the data from your horse. You cant win anything on these apart from the satisfaction of beating your mates or some random stranger.
These are really unusual. Its a good idea that definetly never caught on here. You could effectivly spend a fortune building your horse up to a decent level ( £50 EASILY ).When you first start out your horse is poor but feeding it the right foods and giving it enough attention and perhaps a mate will keep your horse sweet ( cant believe am saying this ) Every now and again a race will come round and if anyone else is playing at the same time you get to race them !
There was one in Hynds in Dundee a couple of years ago, aldo saw one in that big arcade in Renfield st Glasgow around the same time.
Have not seen one since but i'll bet there still in France ect.

They had one in Carousel in Ingoldmells,a massive affair with its own entrance.Think it was an 8 player version but not sure.Used to frequent this arcade as a walk through to pleasure island but never seen anybody playing it ever, proper waste of space!
