Hi All

I have 2 problems at the moment one potentialy serious the other may cause minor problems for the night owl users out there

First the Serious Issue

When i returned from my outing today I have discovered that some one has been attempting to log into the server with my ID ,this will not help them in anyway i might add as this ID only has the same access as any normal user, I have however changed the password on this account and blocked both the IP addys used. I have traced them back to a blueyonder account some where, however if this carrys on i will have no option but to close the server down delete all user accounts, change the URL and only grant access to genuine members of the scene via invite only.

Second

Virgin media are doing work between midnight and 6am over the next few nights so that we lucky customers can have the new 20mb service this means that access to the repro may not allways be availible during this time frame up to Thursday night.

as I mentioned on FF fella, I would seriously consider what you say and think about taking it to invite only for the genuine members of the boards, or just close of registration now and leave it as is. I can sympathise with the amount of people that must be pestering you constantly about this, asking if accounts have been approved and problems they are having. I admin two other boards and one of them has similar tendancies from a lot of idiots.

MFME v9.4 is available on torrents to be fair and pretty much anyone can access them so if they are really desperate to get their hands on this piece of software then they can do it easily enough.

Just my two cents fella, you've been providing a cracking service for a while now and its not fair that it should be such a bane at times to you :)

Hi Jimmy

It's a pain i was expecting some work when i set up the server but as i said above, when i started the repro up, I was only expecting layout designers and other intrested partys to be visiting, then V9 got leaked and I took the decison to help support it and it grew from there, I have over 200 users now on the list and an average of 11-20 a day sigining up, most of who are not using an ISP e-mail addy so just get there accounts deleted, the software i use is not very sophistacted so it cannot send out and respond to vairifation e-mails so i have to this manualy, most of the users only tend to visit once grab the emu and never come back. I will leave it as it is for now and monitor the situation see how it goes if this attempt to log on as me continues i will close the repro remove all accounts and then re open it under a new url which will only be availibe to developers. The other option i am looking at is seeing if i can give guest users access only to the EMU folder so that thay can download the EMU without having to actaully reg, but if i can do that it will stop them leaching but will at least let them get the EMU.

I realise I’m only a newbie of about 1 week, but could I let you know how us new kids think/feel!? Tell me to b*gger off if you like!
I found your website after searching around for “realistic” fruit machine games, and I immediately fell in love with it! Not only do you have machines that look and feel real, but you have quality banter to go with it.
I’m an addict in remission. I used to play machines ‘til the cows would come home. Finding classics like Boulder Dash, Crystal Maze and the one that got me started, Big Banker was amazing and I’ve downloaded as many as possible which has taken me back to my childhood!
I used to work for Bell Fruit in Nottingham, in their research dept. I would play on a machine hard wired up to a PC in front of a team of designers and tell them what I thought, £30 pay for an hour!!! Best job I’ve ever had.
Now the problem with MFME v9.4 seems to me (as a newbie) that it’s the only emulator that you can play “the latest” machines on. This makes it VERY tempting indeed. I understand there are politics regarding this emulator, but I haven’t a clue what the issues are.
I’m more than happy to wait until my registration to the Repo goes through, but some people are after a smash and grab and don’t understand the need to “look after” individual’s rights and hard work!
Sorry to rant, but thought you might like to hear the thoughts of the new “little” kid in the corner!!!
p.s. thanks for an absolutely fantastic site!!!

fair enough fella, and if only most were like you in their patience for waiting for activation.

But you also need to remember that this is being run from cliff's own personal computer. There is no dedicated server, no extra software, just cliff with his PC.

So far he has had countless attempts to hack his admin account, change passwords and is persistantly pestered by less gracious and patient members. From that side you can understand the amount of frustration that it must create.

As cliff said, it was originally intended to host simply layouts and flyers as a resources to replace the origial resource centre that was discontinued.

If cliff does decide to change the system then I think it is fully justified. MFME 9.4 is available in other places, its just that cliff's server is the most reliable and easy way to get it. There are quitea few torrents around containing layouts and the emulator and they are very easy to setup too so it won't be like the emulator dissapears from the public eye....

just be patient, as cliff has said, the repo is hopefully going to change so that an account isn't needed.

Can we please have no more requests in this thread....
