British censors have banned a violent video game from the UK for the first time in a decade.
The video game Manhunt 2 was rejected for its "unrelenting focus on stalking and brutal slaying", the British Board of Film Classification said.
It means the Manhunt sequel cannot be legally supplied anywhere in the UK.
The parents of a Leicester schoolboy who blamed the original game for the murder of their 14-year-old son said they were "absolutely elated".

BBFC director David Cooke

The original Manhunt game was given an 18 classification in 2003.
Manhunt 2, for PS2 and Nintendo Wii consoles, is made by Rockstar Games.
The company has six weeks to submit an appeal.
The last game to be refused classification was Carmageddon in 1997. That decision was overturned on appeal.
David Cooke, director of the BBFC, said: "Manhunt 2 is distinguishable from recent high-end video games by its unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone.
"There is sustained and cumulative casual sadism in the way in which these killings are committed, and encouraged, in the game." I for one is pissed off about this as a casual gamer you can toss the odds about a game . but video game shops should ask for i .d selling video games manhunt2 was always going to be 18cert it is just like films why cant they ban saw.1 2 and 3.on DVD for its gore to me it is just P.C gone mad and it has just f***ed me off big time wake up from P.C land and get a grip because this just bollocks. sorry for the bad language. but i am mad.

Agree - Daft decision - Don't see any difference with other games in which you kill things: Resident Evil, God Of War etc (the list would fill pages).

The "do gooders" have influenced this decision by no doubt saying that people will try to emulate the game. You could say that about films - TC Massacre or Hostel.

Just hope they never ban Final Fantasy Series - Otherwise I will be stalking and killing the "do gooders" - or move to Tokyo.

Its daft they blamed the original Manhunt for a murder details of the case in the link.

BBC NEWS | England | Leicestershire | Police reject game link to murder

I really wonder sometimes whether the BBFC are made up of a band of complete and total retards. Banning this game from the mainstream will only serve to send it underground I can see a lot of hooky copies doing the rounds as soon as it hits the newsgroups.

@skegman0

Remember the video recordings act 1984? Its that all over again wonder if in 20 years will this will be acceptable to play like most of the video nasties are now ok to view 20 years on?

Bet it hasn't been banned in the US. LOADS of games are horribly edited before being released over here. That's if they manage to get released at all. Buy an import game console if you can. Might cost a bit more but at least you get the games as they were originally made instead of half of it bloody missing!

Just another case of PC gone mad. I suppose after July 1st you won't able to depict smoking in a game?! That's part of the reason why games are delayed over here. The editing takes A-G-E-S. On the off chance 1 person might possibly complain!

Manhunt 2's Release Officially Suspended

It was bound to happen!
Because of the small furor it seems to have caused recently, with everything from banning, high ratings and outright refusals to release affecting the game, Rockstar and Take Two have announced they will be officially suspending the release of Manhunt 2 and it will no longer be hitting stores (well at least the counties that have not banned it) on its previously announced mid July release date.

In the statement the publisher reveals that, it has “temporarily suspended plans to distribute Manhunt 2 for the Wii or PlayStation platforms” and they plan to review their "options with regard to the recent decisions made by the BBFC and ESRB”. Finally they pledge that they will “continue to stand behind this extraordinary game”, which seems to hint that they will try not completely strip the game down in order to let it be released with an 18 certificate. well at least there is still hope yet for this never to be banned game. so fingers crossed Posted Image

Nah. Once the PC brigade has their eye on something they won't stop unless it's banned altogether. Or at least horribly cut down. As i put in my other post, the european version is bound to be more edited than the US one either way. Want complete games? An import console is the way to go.

Thats the problem with banning games/movies is the internet lets hope the review copies sent out are leaked to the net so this bollocks is nullified.
