When you added the Second O/S you simply allowed it too much space.
When installed you should have lowered the partition allocated size to the new installation...
Don't rush things.......read what you are doing![;)](http://www.fruit-emu.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
And it's NOT your memory, its the disc size..........70gb is still there, only 50/50 to each O/S

Thank God for that LOL, so when I go to my computer, how am I going to be able to see that I have 70 GB free?
ps the dual boot process never created me another new partition for some reason.

mini, can't really understand that as it WOULD have checked for exsisting systems first.
All I can suggest is you start again afresh (as I understand this is a new lappy re your past threads).
Install your OEM version and go slow if you are really worried matie.

A wiseman once said if you don't know what you are doing don't do it. If you are 100% adamant you want to keep Vista you are probably daft enough to try this anyway see the link below.
How to dual boot Vista and XP (with Vista installed first) -- the step-by-step guide | APC Magazine
Also read about the problems folks have had trying it and weigh up the possibility that it aint bloody worth it.
Never tried it myself with XP and Vista and frankly I wouldn't too much bother might as well chuck XP and have done with it.
Usual caveat here if you try this and royally f*** it up neither myself or Fruit-Emu are responsible for what you do your PC its up to you if you take the risk.
Don't say we didn't warn you..........Enjoy
Just quoting this so someone least sees that I did say its risky don't try it just wipe the bugger and chuck XP on.
That is all.

Hi all,
Ok I know you lot hate Vista but I'm going to stand my ground, yeah it is overwhelming with little useless knick-nacks like the side bar what seriously drains processor specs, but here's it's defense:
1. Vista has a new update daily, it has a feature where you can update multiple programs in one go. I.e I load program updater and bang, office 07, kaspesky antivirus, nero, codecs, etc. Piece of cake, unless it's pirate then you remove it from the menu!
2. I have not had a problem with Vista yet, so when you install the programs, they all open and the only problem is if you click the screenshots browse button nothing happens.
3. Right click in the directory, and tab compatability. Don't select, 95, 98, ME. Select XP SP2, press ok, problem solved.
4. Some software may give you problems saying your missing dll's (Not BFe, JPe, MFME).
Google, search them download and paste in windows. Open RUN command and type regsvr32 "C:Windowssystemmsstdfmt.dll" or what ever the dll is.
5. The reason for this Vista works by .NET, it was made superior to VB6, however people still use VB6 runtimes.
6. Driver problems, the updater will automatically update any drivers which are signed, if not then you'll have to find them from the web, this is wear it pays to get names, i.e creative, realtek, ati, gfx, samsung, etc not aldi or cheap sale crap which you'll never find online. Although this is personal prefernce, I know what I prefer.
Seriously I have Vista and I have crash tested it on an Acer 64bit running a 32bit Home Premium OS. I have had one problem ms32dll kept crashing when i open video files, bad ogg codec.
I am not dissapointed with Vista but remember as of NOV 07 MS stop selling XP licensce key, and by the way that shocking version of WIN pinball, no more!
Cheers all,
Chris

Ok Christopher each to their own but I'd rather go to a pool party at Barrymores house than run an OS that needs daily updates.

all well and good saying you can get daily updates and that you can easily google for the required .dll etc etc
But you shouldnt have to is the point, it should be stable enough and complete enough to not need daily updates and not need to have to download those .dll files
Microshite f***ed up royally with it, it should have been shelved and worked on for at least another year before release.
MS might stop selling the license key but that doesnt mean they will end support for it. Support for Xp will continue for a long time after. Until Vista irons out all of its crap its going nowhere near my PC if at all. XP does everything just fine and if it aint broke then I aint gonna start trying to fix it

I have one question which I believe to be highly important, I have a laptop with a 160 GB hdd. Since I have tried to dual boot XP and creating and shrinking a partition I have noticed that when I go to my Computer and see what my local disks sizes are, they apeaar to be only 49 GB each! They used to be around 75 GB each but now they have gone smaller and I understand this is due to shrinking, please please please may I ask you guys how to get my original disk sizes back, pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, as I am off School today due to suffering from extreme migraines throughout the night I have been looking into my problem with my Hard disks. I have discovered that I have a large amount of space unallocated and I would really like to know how to reallocalte this space, I have attatched below a print screen of the hard disk status, many thanks guys, really appreciated.

normally right click on the unallocated space and create new partition, but this will create extra drives rather than add the space to the existing partitions.
Partition magic used to be able to resolve this but i dont know whether Vista has its own version to allow the modification of an existing data partition to allow new space or volumes.
You might have to end up with C,D,E,F and G drives if you want to use that space up. Alternativly wipe and start again !

Yes Vista does look nicer and support DX10 but nothing at the minute uses DX10 properly. Having to wait days, weeks, years to get a printer / scanner / TV card running that has been working for years is a joke. If a car company offered a car which would do 110MPG, has 1000BHP and a full leather interior you would (as many people have with vista) think "Great, I want one". But you get to the showroom, pay your money, and go home only to find that the lights don't work at night, the window wipers don't work in the wet, it does 20 MPG, and only has 1000BHP in 3 years when the fuel to make it do it comes out (and until then you get 75BHP (Thats a 10 year old renault 19 Diesel, ugh). You would return the car, punch the salesman, and buy another one of the car you traded in for it.
Vista sucks, its not finished. In 3-5 years time when the bugs are worked out I'm sure it will be great but the ups are nowhere near worth the downs, yet. I remember hearing on the radio that there were hundreds of people waiting for the latest updates from EPSON so their printers would work.
I'm sorry but a printer is hardly an unknown or recent bit of technology. How hard is it for Microsoft to give the manufacturers time to create new drivers, or even a converter that converts the existing drivers to the new OS format.
Having worked with laptops for many years in both repair centres and sales I would NEVER buy one with Vista on it. Laptops are great because they are low powered and portable. The graphics capability required by Vista just to run the OS is stupidly high. Great if you're running a dual core, with 4GB ram, 2 SLi'd (or Crossfired) Graphics cards and 500GB HDD space. But on a laptop I have seen the CPU maxed out just to keep up with the graphics requirements. I have a friend with Vista on his laptop and he comes round daily to update it and the updates just don't work or are half-assed.
I'm not a hardcore gamer but I do like my graphics turned up high when I game and Vista doesn't dent (let alone cut) the mustard.
