I just been reading that over 1000 new laws have been introduced since 1997.
One rule for them, 1,000 new ones for us - Times Online
This is ridiculous, how are we supposed to live within the law if there are so many rules. We can't be expected to know them all, surely.

Anyone here ever been in trouble for breaking a law they didn't know existed?
I'm sure people must be breaking the law all the time and not know they are.

Here's one you can catch people out with who try and make out they're perfect, taping off the tele. It's theft. As i've enjoyed pointing out to people who try the holier than thou crap. Works every time! A lot of laws introduced replace out of date ones or are only slight amendments, so they don't make that much difference. Just seems a lot when you see the amount.

My understanding was that you are allowed to record onto a video recording device, but must destroy any recording within 30 days?

Otherwise VCR, DVDR and HDD based devices would be effectively illegal as well, no?

I thought 'technically' it was copyright theft unless you bought the film/program on tape/DVD from a shop. But obviously your not going to be up in the old bailey on a charge of taping Thursday nights Eastenders! Maybe there is a loophole that allows tapings to be made for personal use or something? Bit of a grey area that one.
