part of its due to a poor offering of wage increase thats below inflation rates. Might not seem like much to some but with the recent changes in mortgages prices etc it can have a serious detrimental effect on your income and such. Add to that some pretty nasty pension cuts I believe and a lot of talk of modernisation which could result in closures and job losses...

All this from a company that turned over record breaking profits of around £500million on a couple of years ago and paid out to their chief executive a bonus of around £2million that year....

A pay rise in line with inflation should be the minimal expected to be fair.....

My interest means I have to study large public limited companies accounts very often and I've gotta say it stinks how most of them operate.

It's simply PROFIT PROFIT and more PROFIT. Nothing else matters in a world where money rules.

All the time I see companies streamlining their operations by closing UK factories, car plants etc....in order to open the same stuff overseas where they can employ people on a 10th of what they were paying them in the UK.

No matter what job you're in at present, with the Bank of England raising interest rates 3 times this year (and one more to follow either this month or if not this month then definately next month) theres going to be many people who will be struggling to make ends meet. Then you have ever increasing petrol prices, electric and gas bills and it all reads very grimly for those who are already feeling the pinch.

Any wage rise below inflation is merely a paycut and the Postal staff are just one of many who aren't appreciated and rewarded accordingly.

Nurses, fireman, policeman all get sod all IMO for the dedication they put in whilst bl££dy footballers salaries really do take the piss.

The rich just get richer whilst the poor / everyday working class people at best just stand still

Fair do's. At the end of the day I've been playing Devil's Advocate here, although I hate unions. One simple reason. The UCW failed to help me when my job was on the line many moons ago and lo and behold, 15 years later. Directory enquiries costs money to phone and that's if you can get through at all....Oh well!!! The exchange where I worked is no more and the jobs are in another continent....ha ha to the useless union reps who didn't give a shit at the time and lost their jobs too eventually.

Working as I do now in the charitable sector...I work damn hard to keep our charity going. I haven't had a decent pay rise in 3 years therefore I am losing out. I don't care however as I love the charity I work for. There's more to life than money.

I do hope that the postal workers achieve what they set out to do by striking. I also hope that charities like ours don't go by the wayside because we don't receive our funding in time. We don't have huge accounts. We have to pay bills, just like you.

Actually it might given current standing Ady...we really are pressed for cash and even what seems like a few quid to some organisations is the money that will keep us going for the next month. Guess unless you work in accounts for a charity then you can't understand what I mean. We don't have overdraft facilities...lol

That wasn't an attack on the posties Ady as you well know. It was a bit of humour (misplaced maybe) but definitely based on a local postie who told me that's what he did when he couldn't be arsed delivering the mail....lol

It really hard as I have to bite my toungue as being employed I can't say too much......i'd love to say what I think but of course i'd be silly to.

As I feel this thread is so personal to me would you guy's have any objection to me locking it and letting it slip away?

This thread as it stand has no reasons to be locked I know--hence i'm not doing it without asking the posters first, but being on here so much I hate seeing it and not being able to defend the situation.

Other than that can we respect each other and not make any more posts on here?

Why do you feel you can't have your say Ady mate? You would just be giving opinions on something that you are experiencing first hand... and could probably shed alot of light on information that people may have overlooked or not taken into consideration.

I, personally, would be very interested to hear what you feel about the subject, and don't think that you should hold yourself back due to you having a 'biassed' view on things.

On the other hand, if you simply dont feel you want to give your opinion due to your own reasons then that's a different matter, but i don't think you should hold back if you have opinions you want to share but feel you can't mate.
