I see my postie every day he decides he will make an appearance when I'm at work. He walks in every second day, shrugs his shoulders when I ask him where our business mail was yesterday.
As far as I'm concerned striking belongs in the 70's along with Arthur Scargill...and look what HE did for the coal mining industry.
What the hell are postal workers striking about? Long hours? Can't be surely.
Are they striking about the fact that my post never gets delivered? In the last month alone the feckers have "lost" a cheque addressed to me, a parcel addressed to me, a postal order addressed to me and most recently "train tickets". YOU GUESSED IT!!! Addressed to me!!!
What a fecking shambles (sorry Adydb).
They have farted around with stamps (Large and small). What a joke!!! Go by weight surely?
They're employing spotty teenage pricks who couldn't care less whether they deliver your mail. I've seen 'em on their rounds, sticking your mail back in the boxes because they can't be arsed to deliver it.
I'm saying nothing until I read everyone else's opinions. But mine stinks.
P.S: I am saving up the letters wrongly delivered to my address (not even close)...and I currently have around 16. I will take them around to the post office when I can be arsed, just like them...or maybe I'll send 'em off to Watchdog....lol

Good on them..
Strike for what they deserve - It should have never been nationalised in the first place though!
Strike for what they deserve - It should have never been nationalised in the first place though!
LONDON (Reuters) - Royal Mail workers announced a new wave of 24-hour strikes on Thursday after talks failed to resolve a dispute over pay and job cuts.
Workers held the first national walk-out in 11 years in June and there were further rolling strikes last month.
The Communication Workers Union (CWU) said the industrial action was due to Royal Mail's "below inflation pay offer" and its plans to reduce the workforce by around 40,000 by automating mail-sorting processes.
It said the latest strikes would come against the Royal Mail's modernisation plans, due to start on August 13, which would make changes to delivery times and reduce customer services.
"The union has made a fresh offer for a period of calm," CWU Deputy General Secretary Dave Ward said on Thursday. "All Royal Mail have to do is take a step back and engage in meaningful negotiations."
The planned 24-hour stoppages will affect different Royal Mail units from August 9 to 17.
The Royal Mail said it could not understand why the CWU had announced more strike dates when the parties were engaged in talks at the conciliation service Acas.
It said the strikes were costing the company business.
"Royal Mail also deplores the move by the union, in spite of these talks, to attempt to cause further disruption to customers' mail," a spokesman said.
"As the CWU is responsible for calling the strikes, they are clearly free to stop this damaging action at any time. Royal Mail urges them to do so, in the interests of our customers, our people, and the future of the business."

Bring on the automating process. See my post above James. They can't find where I live FFS. No wonder. Sack the layabouts with cushy numbers who can't be bothered to sort mail properly.

Royal Mail have no condideration for small business people that reply on the post daily to receive cheques that they must bank in order to pay off their buisness loans.
I used to work for a local family run newspaper company and they relied on this method of banking cheques daily - it was always when a new or different postie was on they would simply 'forget' to bring the business mail into the office and eventually the company went bust due to this reason

Well the Company I work for are a charity and rely on funding...and the fact that the strikers don't even bother to work out that the difference between big business, small business, charities and innocent homeowners makes my blood boil.

As usual a load of people spouting off about something they understand little about. I worked several years as a postie years back and was involved in the last set of strikes 10 years ago.
I am not going to get involved with the reason for the strike and there are many justified reasons but i will just point out a couple of things that really used to piss me off about some f***wit customers..
1) The idiot who asks where his mail is. erm... lets see in my crystal ball.. was it mailed?, was it addresses properly?; (i'd estimate a good 10-20% of all mail is incorrectly addressed in some way, but do you ever praise the postie when he corrects these without giving a second thought?), was it sorted to our town?, was it sorted to my walk?, has it been chewed up by the automated sorting machines, has it even passed within 50 miles of me? did it have the correct amount of stamps on? So when the post man shrugs his shoulders think about what a f*****g stupid question you just asked, because that shrug is the posties polite way of avoiding saying "shut up you stupid pathetic c***"
2) your complaining that post is getting later, posties don't want this royal mail has scrapped 2nd deliveries and with them jobs, and given your postie extra large walks with increasing amounts of extra heavy catolgues and unaddressed leaflets in addition to normal mail that firms insist spamming people with, starting them later in the day. Part of the attraction of been a postie for me was the early starts , getting around and finished before most people are up and about and been home before the day has hardly begun.
3) some of the most intelligent people i have met were posties who did the job because of it various lifestyle reason, outdoor work , early finishes, regular exercise, meeting people, back when been a postie was a respected profession and the postie was a central part of the community. To generalise the tens of thousands of postal workers as dumb is an act of supreme stupidity in itself
4) by cutting the work force to the bone making walks larger and larger it makes it harder to cover sickness and illness, royal mail for a long time has been hiring more and more part time agency staff and giving practically no training are chucked on deliveries and expected to cope. The job is much harder than you might expect. Letters as i mentioned before are often incompletely or wrongly addresses , many houses are often not numbered clearly, flats and rural homes especially. The amount of times i have spent 5 mins on a new walk looking for a single address only to after much searching or asking finding it was an unmarked letter box hidden behind a bush down the side of the house. Try finding that in the dark on a winters morning.
5) long hours? you wanna try starting at 4:30am sorting for a several hours (on your feet cos at 6 foot tall even i found it impossible to stay seated and reach the ever widening sorting frame) then riding a bike with a heavy mail sack on the front through wind, rain and snow, up and down hills, then dismount constantly and trudge up and down steps, (not all houses are terraced with no gardens) for up to 4 or 5 hours on bad days without a break. Royal mail wants to cut jobs and make this rounds even longer. This is physically demanding work, not sat behind a desk or till
so as usual on this board, same as with the smoking debate its full of fools spouting of nonsense they no little about without making any effort to consider the true reasons, other people or anyone but themselves

I have to agree with fist, even though i never worked for RM, I had a lot of dealings with them cos I worked for one of the 'spam' companies. Admittedly there are lazy c***s who try and get a cushy number, but the posties I met were just fed up with being treated like scum by their bosses.
Ok good hours, but what they do in those hours is probably more work than the normal guy does all day. Sorting mail, carrying heavy sacks around, being treated like f***ers cos someones giro was late are only some of the complaints that posties face daily. The fact any mail ever gets anywhere is not due to computers and technology, it is the postie that has to ensure this happens every day.
I do not blame the vast majority of decent people who do this job daily, I blame the fatcat bosses who cut corners and stretch available resources all to save a few quid, whilst they give themselves large pay rises and congratulate themselves on a job well done (by the workers!).
I have had late mail, wrong mail and all the complaints listed, but to blame the guy who is just trying to do his job the best way he can without looking at the background of the industry (in fact all industries, no pride, no compassion, maximum profits etc) is not fair. Thanks to the majority of posties, we get our mail in most cases, rain or shine. May Postman Pat live on......(even if his black and white cat becomes redundant due to company streamlining!)

Once again IMO it's brought over that the majority of you unfortuneately probably have more incompetent posties, and people like Ady will get in the stick...
We aint as good/bad as each other you know.
But then the stem of what Gaz said might be hitting at the Royal Mail accepting forms like that? Just an assumption

We've had the same postie here since I can remember. He's a nice guy to talk to and not the least bit chavvy. Although this strike has delayed my extra 1/2GB of ram arriving, and my Maygay alpha display so damn them all. Ok don't damn them all but the sooner the strikes and disruption end, the better.
I could never be a postman as I can't do early mornings, I'm very much a night person.
I can live without 1/2GB ram and an alpha, but if it was a giro cheque, I would be livid. I paid a price for a service and that service was not supplied. Wheres my money back?
With post being used more and more due to people buying over the internet rather than shops, its only a matter of time before the customers and the companies get royally(get it

Strike action in this day and age can be classed as an act of terrorism
The Terrorism Act of 2000 defines terrorism as including the use or threat of action designed to influence the government and made for the purpose of advancing a political cause

My last reply on this thread, as I may be classed as slightly Bias...
I'm a 43 year old guy with a £600 25 year morgage on whats just an old council house (yep a normal 3 bed terraced house)....I take home £960 a month and am too knackered to be able to work what little overtime there is...NOT SOME 2 YEAR OLD KID.
I suggest gents that you step back a little and read BOTH SIDES, and the 'government' quote.....just shows how little you know!

The whole situation is bad for anyone who relies on large amounts of mail, or even those just waiting on a particular item, i buy loads of things online and the delays these last few weeks have been shocking, some things being delivered 8/9 days after they've been sent 1st class and some not turning up at all.
But, it has nothing to do with your everyday postman, of couse it's them who are striking but if they weren't being shit on by the fat cats they'd have no reason to!
Postie's are just doing there jobs we can't hold each individual responsible for lost or delayed mail, it's just stupid!

I have nothing against employee's that want to strike to get what they want.
Bit of an inconvinience...YES
Having the piss ripped out of you by employers(or in this case goverment) NO
Stand up for what you believe is right and let no c**t walk over the top of you.
As i have learned to do in my current place of employment as we do not have a union.
