Just wondering, would all the modern layouts with a '1280' res work on a screen with a resolution of 1440x900?
Thanks

Ok thanks, I thought that may be the case, but I didn't know if it had to be 1280x1024 for all the buttons etc to fit in.
Presumably this means they will also work on a 1280x800 screen?

no there will be some bits missing on a 1280 x 800 however a 1024 x 768 will fit into that

No they won't fit because you need to be able to do 1280*1024 (900 will not do). The only 1400 res that works would be 1400*1050.
Now there is a way you could possibly play them but it depends on your laptop. If you go into the display properties either by right clicking on the desktop and choosing properties or by clicking on display in the control panel, there maybe an option which says, "Hide Modes that this monitor cannot display". On mine it's under the settings tab, click advance then on the monitor tab. If you have this and uncheck the tick from the box you can then slide the res bar up in the settings tab to higher than 1400*900. You then are able to scroll your screen up and down and will be able to view them properly.
If the options are not there, then no you cannot play them on a 1400*900 screen without losing some of the machine.

Don't forget you can rotate you display. Not sure if it does a laptop any good being on its side but thats what I do.

100px more will fit on a 1440X900 than 1280x800 - both will still be short since ALL 1280 layouts are 1024 high.
