After quietly using this site for a couple of years now, I thought it was time I made some sort of contribution.

My real fruit machine success over the past few years has been, quite frankly, shite. I put my failure down to the rise in stakes, coupled with my reluctancy to pump more than £50 into one machine. And we all know that today's 'entertainment' can easily suck that amount from you in 20 minutes (not to mention an S16 mare). I started thinking "Am I really getting value for money here?" In 2005, that's where FME and poker stepped in.

I started playing $10 sit'n'go online poker tourneys, and found the adrenaline rush absolutely massive compared to what I got from bandits. I know it's not for everyone, but what's important is that I found an alternative to popping into Nobles after work and donking fifty quid. I still get my gambling fix, but at a fraction of the risk (anybody else enjoy hold'em?).

As for FME, reading other's posts on their gambling problems is strangely comforting, and made me realise I did have a 'condition'. These discussions should continue to be encouraged on this site. Add the immense pleasure I have playing my old favourites (Project, Ace Hidden Treasures, jpm), it re-enforces my opinion that today's fruities aren't as much fun. I can't have spent more than £300 over the past 12 months on real machines.

Thanks to all the contributors of this site, feel free to respond to any of my drivelly pearls.

Superb looking table gspot. Gotta say i think I prefer online, I'm getting cheesed off with my home game. Every hand has a post-mortem of what they would have got, peeking at folded cards and rabbit hunting for the cards yet to come. Really slows the game down. gl for tonight.

yep now what you mean mate, however tonight we are playing for quite a large pot.

We always have a side pot, which has grown to over £520. You may only take this pot if you can hit a winning 23456 straight twice in one night game play. but your hole cards must be 2&3 to start off with. makes it real interesting as it brings the timid players to life a bit. It was nearly won two weeks ago. My brother had the 2&3, and was nastly beaten by a full house on the river

Other player had 2 & 5. flop came out 2 4 3, next card 5, river came 5. They were both all in on the turn, can you imaging my brothers face when another 5 came on the river,

Hard lines I said.lol...

Actually, I think it may be your willingness to pump as much as £50 into them that's the problem :)

The only way you can [consistently]win on modern fruit machines is by having inside knowledge about programming 'bugs'.

If you haven't got it - stay well away, you're just filling them up for the owners and the pros (assuming there are any pros left...).

Never been a fruity junkie as such , luckily my fruity days were in the 80s dam hard to pump money in them days ;) .

As for poker am hooked (online) never played live but hope to one day ,did a tot up other day see how much id put into one site , £1500 and thats just ONE site i have like 7 maybe 8 accounts, kinda scary ..

I do love it tho , its become more of a social thing than a gambling prob , av met some brilliant friends thro poker, who i chat to on phone most days, aslong as you know your limits and stick to them it can be a brilliant pastime, social event and money maker :)

Back in the 80's I used to get a knot of excitement when I got near an arcade, now I get palpatations. £50 used to take a whole day to blow! now it takes a matter of minutes. No wonder poker is so popular!

It all depends on the stakes. £50 would take a long time to blow on a 10p Deal or no Deal. Whilst it'd be a drop in the Ocean on a £1/£2 NL table in terms of bankroll.

Personally I enjoy both forms of gambling, but poker has me tearing my hair out a lot, I mean A LOT more than modern day fruit machines. I prefer fruit machines.

I think ultimately all forms of gambling provide a buzz but most times result in damage to your bankroll. Whether it's a random flash for a £100 streak, a lucky gutshot for an inside straight, a 36-1 number dropping in or a one legged donkey romping home the chance is there, but at a cost.

I have to admit that I have never ever got a buzz out of any form of gambling than Fruit machines (and bingo with my mom), but horses/ dogs/ craps/ roullette and cards (including poker) bore me to tears.... I mean I know how and why just don't get a buzz.......

This is probably as the roots of my playing are seasides in the fair as a pov family kid trying to find 10p left in a machine to risk on others and make me some money to buy sweets........ Bingo - I go to take my mom, but have to admit to a buzz when I only need one number for a decent sized jackpot...

I would play chess for money if you could do such a thing, but that's about it.

Sounds like you've got a good home game set up there gspot, and the jackpot setup is well interesting (ul bro). Hope you did OK last (guess no-one hit the 2-6 straight).

I normally play the turbos on stars (action junkie) under Hugo60000 if anyone wants to look me up.

Sound advice on the fruities by the way, you're right a bit of insider knowledge goes a long way.

Oh, and my girlfriend fancies a bit after seeing your pic ;)

Harsh luck, you're always going to donk your cash with a full house, especially if his kings were in the hole. I play on pokerstars most of the time, I used to play others like Party Poker but they stopped Americans playing. Overall, I seem to do better against the Yanks, can't think why...
