Soft drinks are there for the kids or Mixers. Or if theres a group and ones driving. Anyone buying a coke and going straight on a machine would tell me they've only come in for the machine. Town centre pubs that get loads of passing trade don't matter but local type pubs you'll stand out a mile.
I play machines, I always but a pint or a bottle, when I've had a few I just start to tip me drink down the loo if i've still got several pubs to visit. I've played machines since 1995 and i've only been barred once.
I find you treat them & there business with respect and they'll treat you the same.
I've seen far too many idiots about that don't give a shit, for E.g
In a pub few weeks back 2 lads walk in, 1 goes the bar 1 straight to the machine, pulls himself up a chair like he's in an arcade then ploughs over £10 in coins in 1 go into the machine, I mean would a casual punter do this? No he'd wait for his drink, have a mouthfull then think i'll have a few quid on the bandit but put in 1 or 2 quid at a time.
Another e.g saw a lad drop a red for £70 top and a fiver after then he just stood there with his hand on collect as all £75 spat out getting the whole pubs attention!!
Whilst it does seem wrong that you have to be so cautious when you win at the end of the day thats the only reason your in there & if you wanna go back you've got to try and go unnoticed.

If they dont like the look of you then they will notice more how much u winning out the fruit etc it dont matter what drink you buy they will bar u.
There's a few pubs where i cant go in and play the fruit but my mate can and vice versa.

If I were on my proper machine crawl, it would have been beers first, then JD and coke when I started to feel a bit full. Typically, on a proper machine playing day back when I was 16, I'd visit about 8 pubs, but spread out between say 4pm and 11pm. I'd also buy some cigars to share with whichever mate agreed to be dragged round the pubs, and if I had a particularly good result, I'd get the landlord and perhaps a couple of regulars a drink. When I say that, I mean an obvious profit of at least one jackpot, if it was a bankbuilding machine and I was say £50 in for £60 out I wouldn't bother, but that's only fair.
Examples of best results were :
£2 into Viva Rock Vegas, for £60 out (2 x IM boards for £25 each, followed by a wussing out at £10 on the cash stack on a non-IM board)
£3 into TOT for £75 out (including a nudge code which gambled up and repeated followed by the red (true-skill) 'locomotion-type' feature)
There were plenty of other examples but those two I remember very clearly.
To be honest when you put so little in you'd be a #@#@#@# not to at least stay in the pub, perhaps use it as an excuse for some pub-grub and definately buy a drink for at least the landlord. The WORST thing you can do is act shiftily about it, put down a drink and leave. At least if you are sociable about your wins, play it up, say stuff like 'thank god for that, I left one place down £60 last night!' or something, it makes you appear more human, and less like scammer.
Not that I'm playing at the moment, but if I were I'd still be the same, which is stupid because I never was scamming anyone

Well these days pubs are doing so badly, many machines are going to be pulled off site as they're not making enough to cover themselves.
Prepare yourselves for a big shock in the next few months. I have it on very good authority the number of machines on site is about to decline. Sharply.

Great news, less temptation for me.

End of day, pubs are not pubs now. Smoking ban has killed them all for good. Good food wont carry every pub either. And the average punter is not puting 5 or 10 pound in a machine no more. why ? Quite simple really. When i put a tenner in ,i want some play out of it.You get no play what so ever now( infact you dont even get a win ).Bring back the 4.80 tokens machines. Simple init.

doesn't seem to be a decline up north in scotland going by our figures.
we have had great takings in most of our pubs and clubs.
only when a landlord isn't making 5 times his rent they start to complain which seems to be very rare up here anyway.
must admit i've came across a couple of landlords recently who seem to think a fruit machine should just be like a wooden box that people just throw coins into and never should get a win.had to do a report on one landlords meter readings recently as he said the machine was paying out too much.
guy pays us 40 quid a week rental for the machine and his readings read that he had made 840 quid in 4 weeks.he wasnt very happy when i showed him the figures and his response was "well im used to getting nearly a grand a month".all i could think was what a greedy bastard.

He's Scottish Bazpeeb, what can I say...Your lucky he's putting electricity in his pub meter and hasn't got the candles out. The Scots are a tight bunch. Trying to get leccy money out of the scots in my flat is like trying to get Osama to "own up" to a misdemeanour.
