I have Family Memories on VHS .. Like To Put Them Onto DVD before they get ruined in VHS players etc

Is this possible ?

It can be tricky to do yourself ,if your like me and don't know what ya doing. But it's a lot cheaper to do it at home if poss. Some places charge a fortune to do that. I think it's a flat rate no matter how long the video is too.

what about DVD writer that plugs into your TV ?

Be easier if you can dump the VHS to your hard drive. With that, you can manipulate the resulting video into whatever format you choose, and also edit the video where needed.

Or if you have a DVD Recorder, simply link the VHS Recorder/Player up to the DVD Recorder....

That's not too bad. But i guess it depends how much you wanna do. If it's a lot it would be a lot cheaper to have a bash at doing it at home.

Old cine film to DVD now there's something that costs the earth. A place in town quoted my Dad well over £30 for less than 30 mins footage.

The easiest (and cheapest) way is to take your vhs player to a mate who has a DVD recorder and record them all to DVD.

However, bear in mind 2 things:

1. It will be real time recording - so if you have 30 tapes at 60 mins each it will take 30 x 60 mins
2. Make sure you buy top quality dvd disks - the cheap ones will not last any length of time.

I did this exact for my mother-in-law (for free of course) and it worked a treat. And got me brownie points

You will also have to remember that DVD-R can suffer from a sympton called DVD ROT (basically the dye on the DVD degrades) and will only last a few months to a few years before they are unplayable - so back them up onto new DVD quite often

I agree with the dvd recorder option. You can buy a DVD recorder for about £50 now which will do for backing up to VHS. Also I would stick them on to a hard drive or something as a backup then you won't have to worry about DVD Rot (although if they are well looked after they usually last for ages anyway). I wish I had some VHS videos to do it with Nobody wanted videos of me when I was younger, because they all used to just shout - out the shot ugly. I thought ugly was my first name until I was 9

oh bum, i saw this first and thought i may be able to help you out.

My part time business specialises in transfering old slides and negs to DVD but not VCR unfortunately.
