I seem to be able to keep the desktop so much tidier ( so as you can see my Apple logo 
) - than I ever can on Windows desktops!
I believe it is because of the Dock that makes life so much easier on Apple OS X for Macs!

Can't bloody stand the dock to be honest. Would much rather use Compiz and LXDE or Compiz and MATE or Cinnamon
...I don't 'Linux' using those!

I use Fences Pro as it has patented 'Quick Hide' feature that enables users to hide icons by double clicking and can configure it to exclude hiding individual icons etc. it's pretty useful and make use of it daily so figured it was worth a mention
Desktop Quick-hide:
"Instantly clean up your desktop. Double-click any blank space on your desktop and your icons will fade out. Double-click again and they will return. You can even pick icons and individual fences to exclude."
