BBC NEWS | UK | How a gambling addict lost £2.1m

Just reading this on the BBC site.

I personaly think its a joke and the judge will laugh the case out of courts.

Does that mean i can now take action against Bellfruit,Astra,Barcrest etc. ?
Mmmmmm...Sandy ive 'ad her ye know. :)

What a non pish post ;) well to be honest its his own stupitidy for betting that much in the fair place but i have to agree if they said he wouldnt be allowd to open an account untill 6 months and he does so within 2 monthes in his own name and wastes that amount of money, he does have a case there.
Women are #@#@#@#s....

We have more chance of 2 non pish posts in a day from Todd than him winning this case.

Like i say..dont think the dude has a leg to stand on.

At the end of the day gambling is about choice..you either do it or you dont.

Simple as..you think you have a gambling problem you seek help and just dont go anywhere near the bookies, amusement arcades or whatever.

Easier said than done when you have an addiction of that sort..but no-one holds a gun to your head and forces you to go in to these places.

From what i can see he has a chance because he self excluded from william hills for 6 months and 7 weeks into his self exclusion he opened a new account and started betting again,i think its up to william hill to make sure that does not happen, they say they did not know it was him but i think betting patterns of 30 grand a time would make them do some checks anyway due to money laundering laws,so if they say in court they didnt know it was him then he should win because i dont belive for a minute that they idint know.

Totally agree !

His name should have flagged up when he tried to open another account in his name!

After all hes the one that asked them to exclude him cuz hes out of control and they should know that a gambler in that situation could and would try to gamble again. If all you have to do is open another account when your self excluded then thats down to the poor handling of WH really isnt it ??

They should have systems in place that when someone has self excluded thats what it means and that no matter what they do they cannot open another account in their own name !

sites do need better security in place in managed to register for a few places and use the same card i did before and yet they still allow my withdrawls
i had accounts at will hill in my dads name mams and my own using my own bank card which i was never asked once about ,when you ask thesse places to shut accounts due to gaming problems they then give you gamecare ect numbers and even a link to a site that blocks all internet gaming sites which you have to pay like 30 quid for
he finds a loophole allowing him to register another account under own name having admited he has gambling problem at the same site 2 months in when the site probaly stoped monitoring and blames the site for this like they kidnapped and made him spend the money
.,.
yes it is fun to insult the criminally retarded

Basically all you've got to do is sign up, ask them to block you for a few months, if you can somehow bet with them it's a win/win :)

Been thinking about this case and its possible implications and is daft, imagine someone asks to be barred from Yate's in x town and then goes to y town can they stop him/her?

He or she has made the effort to find a way round his own self inflicted ban and as such, like a tit lost millions his own daft fault.

He got the gambling bug very quick, he only started gambling at the end of 2005 and it's just gone 2008. I don't think he has a leg to stand on in court but I do pity the guy because he has lost everything. I hope he can get back on his own two feet soon.

i have asked for self exsclusion at a multitude of online gaming sites yet months later im still alowed to play in difrfrent names with the same adress and card details even if did f*** up and allow him to play it his own dam fault
soon as you ask site to ban who beacuse your a addict they instantly recomend gamcare ect and a paid service to block all gambling sites from opening on pc so at end of day is his own stupid fk fault
i can see bookies paying out every loser who trys it on like the nob in my local bookies other week arguing toss over pound bet that he never put on a f*** pound quid total winnings and he argues over it threating to kill staff and blow up there car

think his name was gary:bigeyes19:
