What the f*** is this DialBB rubbish?
On Friday my AOL service was fine, and has been fine for 2 years. Then suddenly I had an urgent upgrade forced upon me from AOL when I closed it down.
On Saturday when I booted my laptop up, a 'DialBB' box popped up, asking if I wanted to connect. A password that was 12 'blobs' long was already entered for me. Fearing that it was a 'dialer' I clicked no. Then I tried to get on AOL but it wouldn't connect. Then the DialBB came back and said it was connected. I then tried to get on AOL and it wouldn't let me, showing a different error code each time. IE was OK though. After a few minutes surfing off IE I tried AOL again and it was OK. Turns out DialBB is part of the new AOL.
Later on in the day it disconnected for no reason, but came straight back. Last night it disconnected again and took ages to come back. Then it went off again, and this time DialBB wouldn't reconnect because it said my password was wrong. I don't even know what my password is - it was already in there 'blobbed out', and it's a good 12 characters long so I couldn't even guess what it is because all my usual passwords are shorter.
So I'm left asking this -
Why call it DialBB? Makes you think you have a dialer on your system as it pops up out of nowhere.
How about some f*****g instructions or an explanation of what the f***'s going on before this upgrade is forced upon you?
And lastly, why is it, every single time you get an upgrade for AOL it makes the service worse instead of better?
Anyone else experiencing this shit?

AOL is terrible, it takes over your PC and the customer service is crap too, you get some Indian guy who you can't understand and he can't understand you and I'm not being rascist I'm being honest.
I would think about another ISP.
Good luck sorting the problem out, I've never heard of this happening before.

AOL or Adverts On Line as my wife calls them.
but i would seriously think about changing youre ISP as it can make hell of a diffrence.
i used to be with SUPANET for some 5yrs and all was fine (8meg but actual speed of around 3.5kbps) and then for no reason i got throttled to an amazing
0.01mbps!!! after several calls to supanet and no explanation or increase in speed i changed to dreded TALK TALK and i can honestly say my broadband has never beeen so good. i now get 7.4kbps at all times with no caps or "traffic shaping" even though i download almost 20 gig a week most weeks via torrents.
and its only half the cost i paid with supanet, so go out and find your self another ISP mate.

Whilst I agree with the sentiments expressed above (AOL are not the best ISP in my opinion), this issue here is probably short lived. AOL had issues with their servers yesterday, which was likely to be the cause of your issue.

My talk talk is great for torrents, ment to be capped to 40GB a month, but i download about 200 a month with no charges or nothing, i get about 6.5mbs from my upto 8mb connection

Just incase those on Talk Talk didn't know but AOL is now owned by Carphone Warehouse and are in the process of migrating networks. Which is taking longer then they probably expected. The problems I've been with their DNS server was just unbelievable until I changed to OpenDNS. My god what a difference!
Now that my connect has been moved certain things have actually improved. One of the improvements is that I can access the YouTube website much faster than before. On the old network the videos would either download too slowly or not at all more or less all the time.
As for AOL's software, I don't have it install on my PC. Because I run via a router there is no real need for the software (even with a USB modem there isn't as the XP connection wizard supports PPPoE protocols and the username is [Master Screenname]@aol.com). I do however have it installed in a Virtual PC so that I can view bill details and use the Live Help feature).
Overall I'm still relatively content with AOL. Yes I have had the odd glitch with them which resulted in a free months fee and a reduction to £9.99pm. There isn't (with the exception of Sky & Talk Talk) any cheaper service so I can't complain.
All ISPs have their good and bad points and today it is probably very difficult to single one out to be an outstanding company worth moving to.

i have talk talk and had loads of shit at first for about 2 month after about 2 hours on hold i finally got in touch with technical support but finally i was given a second line technical support number by the kind foreigner or whatever he was and would you believe it i was put through to a geordie like myself he sorted it straight away he reduced my line speed to 1.5 meg instead of 2.5 meg he said the speed was blocking my line cos it was trying to handle too much data at once dont know it this is true but it has been a steady 1.3-1.4meg since no dropped line no slow speed no modem error im well happy long may it last and its dirt cheap too ....

we used to have aol it was ment to be 16mb and according to speedtest we were getting 0.5 or less mb so i rang up the customer foneline somewere in india and took me about 4 hours and about 7 million pounds of a fonecall for me to tell him that theres nothing up with my router and in the end i ended up getting another isp and im still using the same router and getting around 6mb from talk talk
also with aol our password stopped working so asked to get a new account thingy which ment that i had to subscribe again and yet they still charged me for the one i didnt have any they then had the cheek to tell me that on their records they havent charged me errmm a wee bit of bullshit was comming out of the fone at that time so once i cleaned me ears i rang the f***ers up again and started apologising and blah blah blaah and just f***ed them off in the end and there still probably charging me for the dozens of accounts i havent got acsess to

Mine works OK now, only the occasional disconnect now and then which is not perfect but good enough.
However, I need to be careful of another annoying problem. If my laptop shuts down because the battery has run out, Dial BB is nowhere to be found when I reboot, meaning I've had to call the Boys from Bombay up twice to sort it out. So be careful people, make sure your laptop is plugged in, because if it shuts down, you may find that Dial BB gets wiped off...

Lol, they have router fetishes. In my case, I ask them for the account password to be reset because it was forgotten, I get asked the make of my router and is it plugged in and the internet light on.
No! I just want my password resetting please
Tits!
