Yep was shaking like crazy here in Scarborough, just been on news, was a 4.7 magnitude epicentre in hull.
The magnitude scale is not linear, a 9.5 like the the one that caused the tsunami a few years back is many many times more powerful far more than twice as powerful the numbers suggest. which is scary cos even a 4.7 felt like the world was about to end lol
each whole number on the richtor scale represents a 10 fold increase in amplitude.

Its Breaking News atm on BBC News 24..said it was felt across 6 counties.
I must say i would love to experience one myself..just hope no-one was hurt or too much damage done.

in sheffield my wardrobe was shaking
i was half asleep and it woke me very quickly - fearing I ran downstairs
didn't know it was an earth tremor until my sister rang me 20 miles away saying put sky news on!
god - never been through a tremor before.
unbelivable

We had a good shaking up here in Nottinghamshire too - weird - because it wasn't just confined to a local area like they usually are in the UK - this has been felt by a lot of people spread through various counties so seems it was a biggy, even though it only measured 4.7 on the Richter Scale.

Evenin' mornin' whatever.
At first I heard some distant bass. Then it felt like a bulldozer driving down the street. Then it felt like the bulldozer had driven into my hallway somehow osmotically passing through the front door. The cupboard above the monitor flapped open and shut a few times. It lasted about twenty seconds. Coventry not as bad as Brum by the sounds of it. No alarms set off. Don't think it waked the girlfriend.
At least I know I'm not going mad if there's a whole thread devoted to it, I'll check the news now.
