I think it's about time I cleared this one up. The reason James left is obviously because of the free licences given away by Reels of Fun. James saw this as unfair advertising for the sims on the site and hass posted his displeasure for the site in the past.

The fact is that the site owner approached me and offered me the licences free for our members. Whether this was for advertising purposes or any other reason I really don't give a shit. The fact is someone offered something to the site for free and I felt it would be appropriate for our members.

If Reels of Fun sell some more sims because of this then good for them. If they offered me some more licences tomorrow then I would take them again.

I can see Jame's point tbh, it kinda sucks that someone is charging for sims when the whole spirit of this scene is supposed to be about giving.

However, you can't blame Duplu. This site uses an enormous ammount of bandwidth, far greater than ANY of the FME sites. Look at the popular downloads list, some of them have been downloaded 30,000 times !

Add to that a gallery with flyers, loads of fruitys on all techs, emulators and so on it's no suprise that it has to come from somewhere.

So I dont mind the ads, (well the google ones and so on) because its that or nothing I would assume, not like people should really start being fussy is it?

Free service laid on completely free, so the choice is either put up with it as it is (on a take it or leave it basis) or leave it like James has chosen to

Arguably sims aren't part of the scene or at least I've never considered them part of the scene. The programming time, bug fixing and testing that goes into a good sim is far in excess of the time taken to put together a layout.

A classic layout i can have knocked up in 4 hours. ( Steve P )
One of my sims coding , testing, bug fixing, testing to ready typically 80-100hrs.

Typically my games are based on things like REEL KING, SLOTTO, PARTY TIME, MAGIC 7, DOUBLE DECKER etc which are not currently emu'ed.

So for a few £'s im offering that service to people.

The first SIM i did ( MEGACASH ) was launched here as freeware and the second one was also released here PARTY ZONE @ 2.99 for fruit emu members which included a donation to this site! Dispite this donation to this cause it still only sold a dissapointing 14 copies proving that people just dont want to pay for anything even when this site would benefit from it.

If this site ever has to close due to lack of funding its the majority of you that will know who to blame wont you! The ones that have never contributed anything to it.

It should make no differance to you all if theres adverts for my site or any other on here as its the ads that helps keeping this place here, Every little helps as "Tesco" would say ( sorry they paid me to put that in ) rofl

If every member started paying a set amount a month to this place then Duplu could prolly take all the ads off.

Indeed it is about giving, although one member tried to get $500 for roms etc claiming he had bought them when they were already in the public domain.. amazing really
