Hi,
When I get my latest machine if my brothers mates want to go on it for real is it legal without a license if it is set to 10p/£5 (or some other combination)?
Or is this just not true and I'm getting confused with being under 18?
Thanks, Adam

No but my point being a license is not required solely because a machine is for personal gain.

I don't know, but its basicly the same as an arcade I.E personal gain/Profit. Wait untill Nails or Baz logs in they will be able to tell you the right way about it but if its going to be in the likes of a room in your house then I just wouldnt bother getting one, Its going to be hard to prove that your using it for personal gain anyway.

you need a permit anyway & a machine needs to pay licence duty if it is over 5p play £5 jackpot.
The council will not grant a gaming permit to a house.

it cost 5k for 3 years then renewed for 3600 evey 3 years unless the prices have changed
over the 10p stake a licence is need there was no change on this from 1 september 07 only.
only that £8 jpt are not allowed full stop

Quiz machines are classed as SWP (Skills With Prizes) and are therefore licence free as they are not classified as a gaming machine in the same way as AWP (Amusements With Prizes) fruit machines are.

for a £5 jackpot machine u wouldn't require a licence however if your going to site it somewhere then u would require a permit which u would be able to get from your local council. for a fee!!

I don't know if there's a simple answer to this question, but I'll ask anyway...
Does each machine require a permit, or does a premises (ie. a Quicksilver arcade) get one? Does it depend on the amount of machines you have and their classification, or what?

I'm not 100% sure of the figures but here goes:
My local arcade has a permit, they can squeeze in as many £5 JP machines as they like for no extra per machine.
If they have machines £15-£500 JP then they have to pay a yearly licence for each machine.
I assume this is what you've heard and come to the conclusion that you can have one at home free?
So in order to have a machine for free in your home you'll need to get your house registered as a gambling premises (which the council would never grant) and get all the appropriate licenses, which is completely pointless for 1 £5 machine.
My suggestion is that you live dangerously, and stop worrying! I had a machine in my house for a couple of years and always made a few quid from my school mates, i never even considered the legalities of it at the time.

using a machine for home use and making finanical gain from friends ect is HIGHLY ILLEGAL if you didn't have a permit and friends was found out to be playing and the gaming board inspectors found out then you would be in deep shit, they would jump on you like a ton of bricks. i know coz this happend to a lad i know in malton he had 6 machines in a room and all his m8's kept going round and playing them, until a inspector arrived with a warrant to gain entry. he was caught red handed not only did he get a £2000 fine by the court but his machines where all confiscated.
hope this helps

with 8 machines im not suprised he got busted as that would be classed as anm arcade
with 1 you should be ok if in doubt ring the gaming board up but if you do ring them dont give your real name or address

Even if you only have 1 machine, you are breaking the law if you allow anyone else AT ALL to play it.
Also Stake/Jackpot is irrelevant in this situation if it is an AWP.
