Go into control panel > security center > manage security settings for automatic updates > on (recommended) > apply > ok.
Its still there

Thanks for the replies guys..sorted it in the end by uninstalling SP3..going back to SP2.
Wierd though cos ive had SP3 on my PC for months and its never gave me any grief untill now.

and hope it supports every god damn program (( unlike shitty f***ed up VISTA )) which i would never ever USE
XP is always the number one OS that i will always stick with.....VISTA can go straight to HELL :devil:

Turned on my PC and ive got the annoying little red thingy in my taskbar..saying that automatic updates are switched off.
Go into control panel > security center > manage security settings for automatic updates > on (recommended) > apply > ok.
Its still there
Any ideas lads.

I have been getting same problem,and my pc guard fails to start each time computer is turned on,i have not got service pack 3 on that computer either,i think it is some kind of virus,going to reinstall windows at the weekend

You might have the same trojan as i had Paul.."svdhost.exe"
What AV software are you using ?

i am using virgins pc guard,free with broadband,no problems with it up till now,had it a few years now

If i were you id install AVG free 7.5 Download AVG Free Edition 7.5.524 - FileHippo.com
Install it..shut down PC guard..Switch off your modem (to disconnect from the net) as youll have no firewall..Run an AVG scan to see if it picks up anything.

Done as you said,AVG found 23 viruses and trojans,the main one being Trojan Horse (i ain't even been to troy) i think i will reinstall window xp tommorrow,as still getting some sort of add ware also,needs doing anyway,Thanks
