Not possible unless you are a top programmer with access to the manufacturers compilers for their ROMs. Then there's the matter of sound, gameplay, and lamping/reel mechs to get around.
I'd give it a miss.

I wouldn't.
You do need programming skills tho obviously. You are going to need a different frontend to make your roms though because of the way they are made for the hardware.
You could, technically, get hold of all the info you needed to recreate the roms. It is possible.
Kev wouldn't do it tho

Only £500 jackpot on Little Devils which I got waiting for a Rainbow Riches (£70) feature to end. Then I got £210 on the feature on Rainbow Riches. My mrs was happy that day!

Well, I'm assuming that he means purely for emulation purposes, which would leave him shit out of luck under the current available tools. So no I don't think it is possible without a new frontend. Of course that would mean it would be more of a 'simulator' than an 'emulator' anyway.
As for creating new ROMs and machines from scratch...I don't know much about the process of creating them, but wouldn't that take an entire design team?
Something like the uncompleted and much unheard of "StiffECK" project would have been ideal for something like this, but unfortunately it seems to have disappeared lately.

Yeah i been trying to get some time to chat to Stiffy about that....being a pr0 flash coder i figured I could help in my spare time.
I wanted to make a web based emulator but the technology needs specialised coding skills that I haven't got. StiffECK is the next best thing that actually interacting with roms.

StiffECK is something I take a real interest in (I've already offered to test the program once Clive has something put together properly). If it ever takes off again, it will be an exciting project to follow - and from the last WIP pics posted a while back it was looking pretty good already!
It's just another "we'll have to wait and see" now though by the looks of things. Unless Stiffy will update us, now he's been back online this week?
Here's hoping...

Are these roms from the actual machines or some sort of best guess program written by someone else?

The ROMs used in the emulators? Yes they are the actual machine ROMs, dumped to a PC and loaded into the emulator.
