This is actually a slightly odd query in that it relates to a real machine. I have a Grand Golden Game (Scorpion 4?) that pays out £3/time. On pressing collect it paid out two coins as normal and there was a slight gap, only a slight gap, whilst the hopper whirred and then the LED came up with PAY UNIT ERR 17 and alarmed. I didn't hear any stutterring from the hopper and it didn't whirr for as long as it would do when empty. After the slight pause it went straight into this alarm. It definitely has the funds in to pay.
Switching the machine off, opening it up and shaking the hopper have not cleared the alarm on reboot. I'm assuming pay unit relates to the hopper, but have any of you clever people got any ideas on what to do to clear the alarm and allow the machine to be played?
I know this happens in emulation at times and usually, it'll go away after while, not quite sure of the trigger, although going into test and testing coin payout will sometimes clear it, but not always. Sometimes they just disappear after a few minutes, other times they never go away.
Cheers,
JG

Maybe the machine does not know how much it has got in it & thinks it is empty, did you fill it up with the refill key?

I had something like that on my Fortune 500. Somebody in the know fixed it for me but I watched most of it. He took the hopper apart and there were several #s stuck underneath the dial bit. I think they were jamming it.

I've just searched back through similar threads
"you will have to remove the hopper completly and clean the little opto where the coins spit out."
is what Bazpeeb wrote.
In that case - anything I need to know about cleaning the opto? Is it easy to reach? Will a semi-intelligent/semi-comatose person like me recognise the opto for what it is? An opto. Will a bit of kitchen roll do the job or do I need isopropyl alcohol and a dedicated non fibrous cleansing polymer to do the job to an industry grade standard?
This seems to be the case. The hopper ejaculates coins with ease when I $&%# the knob around, so that is fine. I guess I just need to polish up the old fellow.
This is not my machine, it is inside something called an AGC or Argyle Goat Club for those not in the know. There are staff who probably don't like me taking apart hoppers and having keys to the machines (in case I feed them to the goats). One member of staff in particular does not know her elbow from her other elbow.
Thanks lads for the feedback and any further helpful feedback.

Isopropyl alcohol is best for the opto, kitchen roll should apply/ remove it fine.
You could use a goat hair brush though.
