I'm needing a bit of help fixing the bios on a spare pc.
It's an old pentium3 I want to give to a student for her internet, she's
using a 120Mhz thing atm
When I got it, it wouldn't boot from cd so I went into the bios to change the boot order and it was passworded, so did the usaul and cleared the bios.
When I turned it back on, it goes through the mb count then nothing.
A quick look on the net and it looks like the bios has been updated.
So I downloaded SE2BIO17.exe (right bios update file for the pc) and extracted the exe into the 4 files, and used nero to make a bootable bios CD, tested it on my computer and it works.
Problem is the Pentium3 pc wont boot from the CD, it needs to be by floppy, and I've no idea how to make a bootable bios floppy.
Or maybe the bios is stuffed ?, any help appreciated TIA

as far as i remember, win98 had an option to format a floppy drive and then make it bootable (with the relivant / option).
im more than sure if you scanned the net you could download such a file that can be unpacked to floppy. i had countless sleepless nights where i had to boot from floppy, format the drive to a fat32 and then load xp as at a low level many platforms just dont support NTFS.
hope this helps.

You are after a bios flash tool.
Most MB producers provide one that you extract to a floppy with your new bios flash file then boot from the floppy and the tool flashes the bios.
Not updated any bios for a couple of years but that is how I did it last time

Take the battery off the mobo and unplug it for a couple of mins, that should do the trick.

You will need a system boot floppy if you are flashing the BIOS (Which it appears you are trying to do)
Bootdisk.Com - Free Windows Bootdisks, Free DOS boot disk
Grab the Windows ME (OEM) copy (Does not matter if the system is XP etc), and make sure you have the bios update / flash tools on another floppy.
Boot with the win ME disk, swap over to the other, and follow your bios flashing tools instructions

Thanks for all yer help and offers folks.
Got the bootdisk and that wouldn't start either, though it'll come in handy , so took a risk and moved the jumper over, it went into boot recovery mode phew.
So its now working and loading windows, don't think I'll bother with the flash update just in case lol
Thanks again, baz
