Anyone know about computers (hard drive)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok here is a little pc question.
a while ago i got another pc, it was second hand so i had no control of the spec. Anyway, this pc has 2 hard drives. these are listed as:
programs ( c: )
local disc ( D: )
whan i start the pc and press control panel those are the 2 hard drives i see, the 'D' drive has the largest ammount of gigabytes, (is that called memory)
D drive is around 100 gig
C drive is around 50 gig
anyway, lets go back a little, when i turn on my pc i get a option of 2 windows XP to start, basically i just start the first one which is the 'D' drive and the largest ammount of gigabytes. all my programs are installed on this drive and this is the drive i always use.
I have 'booted' up the other drive before but there is only windows xp installed but no graphics card drivers, or any thing else, no modem ets, so i do not use it.
Ok, when i got rid of my last pc i took all the inside out and saved the hard drive this hard drive is 120 gig. So what i have done is put this hard drive into my pc tonight and rebooted it, when the pc started i got an installation message telling me that my pc had found new hardware. Once my pc loaded i clicked 'my computer' and it was shown as:
programs ( c: )
local disc( D: )
local disc ( F: )
so now this new hard drive is 'F' drive.
Now this is the question i would like a answer to.
'D' drive is windows XP, along with 'C' drive which has no progams installed and no grahpics cards etc.
I have a Windows Vista DVD and what i was thinking could i install this to the 'F' drive and still have XP on 'D' drive.
what im hoping for is if i do install Vista, when i start my pc will it say 'C' 'D' drive windows XP and 'F' drive windows Vista, so i can choose which OS i want to use.
If this is the case i would like to install Vista andu se 2 Operating systems on 2 diferent drives.
Complicated stuff, but im hoping someone can advise who is familier with more than one HD on their pc.
cheers

hi mate,
in theory u can use all 3 hard drives with different os on them, however if u do decide to put vista on the 3rd drive, u may find it will mess with the programs u already have on d drive, and when u start up d drive with xp, it will probably search for vista compnents when starting up.
personally i would stick with xp as having been using vista for nearly a year, its a real pain in the arse trying to find updated drivers for those things designed for xp, maybe cos im too tight to go out and buy new ones.
hope this helps ya

Extra storage!
Seriously don't bother with XP, resource hungry and generally shit.
I haven't heard much good about it.

Ach!! Your all talking shite. Stick with Windows '98. With no support available and hardly any users no-one is interested in attacking your operating system. Had no viruses for 5 years.
Mind you...Ya can't play SPace games....lol

silly i had 2 hard drives in my pc that i am in the middle of re-building as its in need of it but i have the new lappy so im not bothered about not having a pc lol im only doiing it so mises can play on it, anyways back to the point, if it was me i personally wud do this, clear all of the hard drives just wipe them clean then just chose 1 master hard drive (little clips on the back of the hard drive) and have the other 2 as slaves
install windows xp/vista or what eva u want to put on the pc on the master hard drive that way ur not clogging up al ur hard drives an the master 1 is where al ur programmes will be installed although if u wanted to keep the space on that 1 u cud at any point transfer the programmes on to ur slave hard drives for extra space on the hard drive ur mainly using but 1 word of advice if ur gunna be using vista make sure u have at least 1gig ram on that pc or u will experiance a slow frigging pc, at least 1 gig bud and as far as the drivers are concerned u can download them off the internet, or u can download software which tell ya what drivers u need and where to get them, for instance i had an old mother board in mine needed sound drivers, so i looked on it sawit was a mr.chips motherboard lookedit up and got all the dirvers for that spacific motherboard so dnt worry about that but end of the day ur decision its ur pc but hope u do the best thing m8 have a good 1
(1 more thing once u have selected a masterhard drive and a slave hard drive even if u u got os on both hard drives it will boot the master hard rive automatically or it shud anyways ) wish u well
