I've cut back big time in the last 2 years or so. I was just as bad, which is why I'm glad I found this site.
The thing that really p*sses me off these days is that all the machines are terrible and never seem to pay out. The machines I hate the most are the Deal or no Deal machines. They are well and truly shocking and I've never won anywhere near jackpot. Always get on the board, the cash goes to around £1.60 and the feature about 1 up from the bottom and then you get question mark lose......everytime. Cash or Bust is always lose as well.
I preferred the older machines such as Crystal Maze, Casino Crazy, Big Breakfast, etc. They always seemed to pay out more.
Perhaps pubs, clubs and arcades are setting the % a little too low.....maybe illegally low?!

Todays fruit machines are the pits, only a couple of months ago I lost a grand in about six hours.Talk about a sickener. Not gambled since due to the fact that i have been working 50+ hours a week Mon-Fri and looking after my son for our lass to work weekends.Arcades are full of shite, money grabbing machines that are no fun any more.
Good on you Crazybar, hope you keep at it.

Used to have a decent job and shit loads of spare money to fritter away but times are hard now and its hard to shake the gambling bug.Even the 10p/£5 machines play crap, remember putting £15 through a Red Gaming machine without a board.Talk about no value for money.

Just to add to this, I myself will most likely quit the f***ers soon enough. It's terrible how quickly these machines can empty your pockets nowadays, and yes I am on about £5 Jackpots. £5 Jackpots in my opinion (and I am sure loads of others will agree with me) are as bad as all other machines (£35's etc). They are just a way of grabbing all peoples money of the age under 18. I believe that all machines should be for people over the age of 18 years, because even a £5 Jackpot can take £20 +++ from you in seconds nowadays. Gambling is a mugs game, yet I still do it and everyone who gambles knows that it is a pure mugs game, at the end of the day you are NEVER up, the only person that is up is the machine owner, NEVER YOURSELF.

Best thing that ever happened to me in the respect that we have a house together and a 3 yr old little boy,but still gamble when I can. As for other things to do its hard to get out of a routine mate.We have been in this house over 2 yrs, have a massive leisure centre less than 100 yds from my front door, and I have yet to go through its doors.IMO once a gambler, always a gambler but hope you find something better to spend your time on.

just read some of the problems the people on this site have had ...... http://www.gamblingt...ShowForums.aspx
I'm the same, I say I will never put a quid in a machine again, but as soon as the pain of losing has gone I will be rite back spending another few hours in the arcade/casino/bookies. It is an illness and it can be cured. It is just going to take alot of dedication and self control. I'm sure if you do want to stop it will make you and everyone else who has a GF life a much better person. Good luck mate and god bless.

Goodness me people just stop playing them. I used to have a problem but cured myself - guess I saw the light in the end. I suppose I kinda replaced it with poker. When you get to understanding that game the feeling of winning a tournament and beating 500 other people dwarfs any feeling of satisfaction you get from putting your money into a piece of plastic with flashing lights, ultimately getting around 80% of your money back.
I still play in the pub occasionally but will only spend a few quid and stop. Make a rule to never get change to play them, never go to the pub alone so that you won't get tempted and stay away from those murdering arcades.

I used to blow all my wages every weekend, felt sick had nothing to show for it, then didi t again.
People that make money, prey on people like those that are regular.
But no one really makes money.
I've not really played them since the days of Psycho Cash Beast being a NEW machine.
I may spend the odd £20 every 6 months of so, but I don't enjoy them anymore.
Does help that I live outside of town and work outside of town tho, makes a huge difference. No temptations....
I just use my casino cash and play here now lol (Again thanks soooooooo much Baz for the loan been going strong ever since lol )
When the machines started to go £7 win then £15 win the gap got too big, then they went to £10,£15,£25. These were ok, nothing special though. Watched more than played. And since the 50p play came in, I thought sod it, I ain't paying £1 for 2 spins when you used to get 10.

I used to do very well out of them. Most of my 'favorite' machines have gone now so the money is alot harder to win so why bother?

Its a big problem gambling and losing money you just cannot afford.
im 40, don't gamble on the fruit machines, yes i do i suppose, if i go out with mates and the say quid each in the machine then yes i do. The point with me is that I can put a quid in a machine and even if there is a good hold or a chance i can get on the board with another quid does not bother me, i can walk away. The machine always gives you a good spin on your last quid, its a fact, it makes you put in another quid!
I remember when i was 13 i had a summer job in a seaside town, peeling spuds for this local chip shop. i was getting 75p an hour and would work weekends and after school. On a saturday i could get about 20 to 30 quid wage and would go down the ammusements and spend it in less than half an hour! I soo learned my lesson.
When i was 18 i used to go in the bookies and spend on the horses, usually lost but the nice wins did come along to keep you interested and put more on.
These days, i bought my own machine 'Royal roulette' and now i have part ex-ed it for 'Legal Tender', the reason i have bought this is to 'waste' my own spare money. But at the end of the day i can take it back, in around 2 months i have put in over £60 in spare change and quid coins. This is my holiday fund, hopefully i will have around £400 by next summer, maybe more i don't know.
I remember someone saying to me years ago about gambling at the bookies, and its true to the fact.
'WHY DO YOU THINK THERE IS ONE 'PAY OUT' COUNTER AND FIVE 'PAY HERE' COUNTER?
If you cannot afford to gamble buyt nee to you need help, you cannot give upi by yourself if you have an addiction that is controlling you, there is help out there.
If you have young kids that should be a reason to stop you from gambling, just take a look at what extra you could give them and don't kid yourself by saying 'they get looked after' or 'they never go without' because they do if you gamble to excess.
at the end of the day, those owners in those arcades are sunning it up every year in their own private luxury holiday home that you have bought them in those far away countries in the sun. They lay there each day, by the pool. Drinking you lager, eating your steak, driving your 4X4 wearing you expensive clothes. Do they invite you to that life style, of course not they need you to fund it!

Yep, I have given up my last vice (a pint or 3 at the pub) and I can assure you that life is exceptionally boring.
Never had a propensity to gamble, personally. Give me a tenner in a penny arcade though and I will be happy for hours!

Well done for quitting before it gets out of control!
I stopped playing 30 days ago and it's the longest i've ever done without playing a machine or gambling in some other way, 30 days may not seem like a long time but for someone who's played at least 3/4 times a week for the last 12 years it is!
In the last 7 years since i've had a decent income i must have lost the best part of 50-60k on fruit machines! Last month i got paid and had just short of a grand left over after the bills and rent were paid, within 3 hours of walking in the arcade i'd lost £700, that was the last ever gamble for me, the current state of play is just rediculous, it's just too easy to send silly amounts on machines that are boring!!
As aaamusements says try Gamcare, i've been on a few times and just reading the recovery diaries can be a massive help, they make you realise what it could be like if you carry on and let it get out of hand.
