This is shocking to bring back the cane

If They Ever Do they will be complaints from Doctors and parents if the teachers are heavy handed with the cane

Now that you have to stay at school until you're 18 I can see a lot more assaults on teachers.
The cane would do no good these days, more likely to lead to a stabbing/shooting in revenge.

From a teachers point of view it may seem a good idea, but like you said, there would be a massive backlash from angry parents.
Kids are worse these days than when I were at school. They dont have the respect for their elders that my generation had.
Something needs changing but dont think the cane is the answer

What a flawed thread... you state 'TEACHERS WANT CANE BACK' when actually only 20% of them do.

I don't blame them anyway, if parents are unwilling to discipline their kids, I think someone else should be able to. However, I wouldn't be at all surprised if we ended up with teachers getting stabbed over using the cane on certain students.

Why not just give teachers knives and let them remove the violent and unruly idiots from the gene pool? :)

That is bullshit..... the more accurate figure would be at least 70% want it back. One of the worse things ever to happen to our society was the taking away of corporal punishment. Just look at the evidence.
You did not have to use the cane the fact it 'could' be used was enough.

Judging by the spelling they need to bring back teaching in schools, I for one think its a little too late to bring back law and order to schools my day it was fight in the yard after school and it was forgotten in a few days now its lets bring a knife/gun and finish it days or weeks later f*****g pussies.

Slightly off topic the teachers these days are far too weak. I used to have teachers who would throw chalkboard Parquet block erasers at you and sometimes resort to shouting (I mean red faced mad as f***) right in front of your face, sometimes even physically grab you and shake you - Lol. Had respect for those teachers and never ever crossed them. The old school teachers were the best.

Kids were not as bad as today Kids, but then again today's kids are allowed to get away with it - Not in my day.

Agreed 100% with ya £6IT..back in my day caught talking in class ye got a good scudding on the back of the head..or a wooden ruler across your knuckles..or the belt.

Many a time did i have my head down crying with the palms of my hands stinging like fook..of course the teachers cant do fook all these days because its not "PC" or its "Abuse" or it infringes pupils "human rights"..not saying thats why there are so many unruly teenagers about these days but i bet its certainly contributed.

I notice it at college as well..Example..someone like myself.."Scuse me Sir is it ok if i go to the toilet ?" someone about 16 or 17 "here m8..is it awright if i jump oot fur a pish ?"..and with all the younger ones chatting among themselves the lecturer tell em to shut up and they do for 10 seconds..and go back to talking thus disrupting the rest of the class that are actually there to learn..no respect.
Mmmmmm...Sandy ive 'ad her ye know. :)

My wife is a teacher, and the comments i get about 10-12 yr olds trying to hit teachers is on the up.

Personally im all for corporal punishment and the cane at schools. Why? at the momment you have kids who have no fear of their peers, and watching things like american wrestling, they have no idea what pain is, programs like that make it look fun.

Its not the inflicting of pain that i wish to see, certainly not, but the fear of god to be put in a child to make that child to NOT WANT to do anything bad = gets my thumbs up.

As for these tear away school leavers and repeated offenders who dont give a toss about the law, i would enforce national service to teach them some disciplin and a decent trade.

Thank god I only got to post 4 to see reason.

I think corporal punishment in schools, or the removal of it, was the biggest step that society did to remove the concept of kids knowing their station. This is probably a poor interpretation, but when I was at school, you accepted and took heed from physical punishment from your elders. That being parents, grand parents, teachers and even the coppers. It kept me in line and made sure I knew my place in life as a kid. Being slapped, caned, belted or even shouted at was unpleasant. And because it was unpleasant, you kept your head clean. Did as you were told, and avoided these punishments. And remember, this is not about one person dishing out violence upon another, but a simple method to nurture good behaviour. The last resort so to speak.

Today, we have a system where those who don't behave are given rewards for good behaviour. That system fails in every department. Bad behaviour is simply manipulated until an offender gets what they want.

When you get a new puppy, giving it a treat because it shat outside will not develop its behaviour. It will never put 2 and 2 together and work out that shitting outside earns a treat. But rubbing the pups nose in the dung mountain in the house after it's expelled the contents of it's pooch rectum, and the pup will not like it. And will be more likely to learn that theres a pattern going on when it gets it's nose rubbed in the shite.

All that happened when corporal punishment was removed from schools, was that the last tool for teachers to persuade respectable dicipline from kids, went out of the window. Kids do what they like because they know there will be no retaliation that will embarass them. Suspension and expulsion doesn't work. Most kids see this as some sort of device to earn respect from their friends.

These kids that leave school with no dicipline or respect for how society works, will continue through life being a pain to society. And no doubt, they will blame their schooling, and education for their problems.

Some of my punishments at school.....

1. Caned for throwing a snowball at another pupil. Then being apologised to after it emerged I didn't do it. The alleged snowball had either ice or a stone in it. It wasn't me but I was with the group firing snowballs at the other group. The thing wasn't even malicious but some prat on our side decided to play dirty, putting stones in the snowballs. We all got the cane for that.

2. Blackboard rubber at my head for not paying attention in Mr Crowthers lesson. That certainly hurt and I paid a bit more attention in future.

3. Numerous fingers of chalk at my head. See No2 for reasons and teacher who performed punishment.

4. Being the one who got caught throwing a punch in a fight I didn't start. Again, Kessy Crowther the teacher. Here now boy!!! Was the call. I went and endured some grief. Me being miffed as I didn't start the fight, turned and walked away whilst he was still talking to me. BIG MISTAKE. He chased after me and did a full blown rugby tackle on me in the playground, bringing me crashing down to the ground. Cuts and bruises from that one.

All that before I left juniors. Probably around age 10

5. 3 whacks of the slipper to my arse from Mr Wildeman at Hull Grammar. 3 different occasions. One for playing 'Iron Maidens - Frigging in the Rigging' on a Rolf Harris Stylophone and Mr Wildeman knew the bleeding song. Incidentally, his slipper was named 'Sebastian'. I lasted a good 3 months before I was finally introduced to Sebastian and never knew it was a flipping slipper.

To be honest. I think my behaviour isn't that far away from kids today. But corporal punishment in schools made me learn to realise the good from the bad, to the point where I learnt to respect my peers, and just behave myself.

I even got bollocked once at junior school for dripping blood on the floor after I got a nose bleed. They made me go back and clean it all.
