No idea - although to me it appears to be a slightly modified version probably given to somebody for testing or as a sales pitch at some point which was not meant to be given out to the general public but was accidentally "released"... I would also suggest it was a test version of the machine which is why the routines to add credits are included.

I'm running Vista Basic.
All I did was download the link
Download Winrar
Extract the file onto my desktop
Go into the reel king file and click on application and it plays after about 30-60 seconds.

Don't know if this helps you Mike.

SOLUTION :

Install FFDSHOW.

Free-Codecs.com :: Download latest audio codecs, video codecs, codec packs and tools, FREE!

Enjoy :)

NOTE : FFDSHOW is essentially a video codec, and it is possible that it'll affect the way that videos are played back on your computer. I personally don't install codec packs anymore, I use VLC / Real Alternative instead, which probably explains why I didn't have FFDSHOW installed, and the game wouldn't run.

Install FFDSHOW at your own risk :)

I did suggest that to Mike earlier at FF but it did not work for him. So perhaps it is not the solution for everyone?

Well it seems weird it would work for me and not for others (in a solution sense). Having said that I'm on SP3 as well.

Mind you when I installed FFDSHOW I told it to handle ALL video playback, by default it wasn't going to do that. I may have to uninstall it, try it with default settings, and see if it still works.

Just let me try and get the £500 first :D

Yeah I would say you would have to enable codec for all uses as they are not keen on working with exe files if you don't do this.

I reckon you have cracked it. FFDshow with enable for all use.

Glad we solved that one. :)

Yeah, just uninstalled FFDSHOW and reinstalled with default settings, and Reel King is no longer loading. I'll just try and work out which setting it is that makes Reel King work.

Looks like it is specifically the MPEG2 codec. If you have just installed FFDSHOW and have not used these particular settings, then uninstall it (you can find it in the Start Menu, or probably 'add/remove programs' in the Control Panel as well.

Therefore, when installing FFDSHOW, on the 'SELECT ADDITIONAL TASKS' screen, you need to do the following :

1) Check the 'Video Formats : Decode the following video formats with ffdshow :' checkbox

2) Scroll down that page until you see 'MPEG-2', and check the 'libmpeg2' box next to it.

I reckon that'll get it working.
