MFME 10.1 - Barcrest Big Game.

Hola Amigos!

My first ever classic in the shape of this early MPU5 from Barcrest (1998). Uses Peep Show reelbands as Big Game bands are unavailable. No pictures are available for this machine so if someone were to kindly provide one, a DX might follow. Hint hint...

Firstly - major thanks to Ploggy for providing ROMs, getting me started and giving me guidance along the way. Also thanks to baz1739 for providing reel bands.

It has a number of issues.
1 - It suffers from what Ploggy refers to as "sticky keys" which means it is locked at £10/25p/86%.
2- It occasionally gives an "Invalid Key" error or a "New Jackpot Key" error on startup. Resetting the machine via Configuration usually clears this but sometimes you have to exit MFME and restart.
3 - When inserting coins it can give a mech error. Resetting the machine should clear this. Put the coins in SLOWLY to avoid this :bigeyes02:.
The good news is none of this makes it unplayable!

Normal shortcuts apply.

Constructive feedback and criticism is very welcome. I know it is not perfect and could be more attractive, but I will learn as I do more of these.

Lastly, enjoy it, it is a great game though prone to acts of evilness at times.

I will be happy to play:D
Optimum speed I find for these older mpu5s is 72000
Cheers Dougsta:)

Johnny! Thats the medal symbol I've been looking for! Will add it to the reels in the next couple of days and release again.

well done Doug, I've been fighting this one trying to do a classic for a while now, it was getting the reels set up I was struggling with as the test mode seems to mess up a lot.

I'll move on to the next old mpu5 I've got ;)

Well done fella. The first step to greater things if this is your first attempt at layout making.

Not able to play (my own reasons of course), but once you've cracked a classic with what appears to be so much going on, you can do almost anything. :)

Well done again!

Updated file below with the correct medal symbol on the reels rather then the Peep Show "star." Decided to do this asap so that more members don't download the incorrect version.

Thanks to Johnnyafc for providing the symbol, and Crazbar for agreeing to edit the original post for me.

When I load this into MFME, the layout loads, but the machine does not "turn on"... I'm new to emulations, so anybody any ideas?

Thanks.

You will need FME10.1 to run this. I suspect you are trying to run it in FME3.1 which just won't happen I'm afraid.

Go to the Fruit-Emu homepage and look for the link to Cliff's Repro down the left hand side. Hunt about a bit and you will find it.

Good luck.

Well done, looks good.

Great to have this machine in the can. I wonder how much the top feature will go for...

Well done, mate! You've done an excellent job considering you had no picture to work from. All the lamps, and buttons work like they should. :)

The various errors that you mentioned only seem to happen on the earliest MPU5 machines. The MPU5 version of 'Squids In' has also got the 'sticky keys' thing going on.

It's to do with the dip switches not being correctly emulated on the early MPU5 machines. If you go into the switch test mode on this, the dip-switches go on and off like crazy - so the machine is always in a confused state, not knowing what configuration it is supposed to be on.

But it's still totally playable with the errors, so it isn't that big a concern.

Thanks once again for all your hard work. :)
