There used to be some really good beers that i remember drinking when i was a lad on the lash that were excellent and cheap, Ben truemans, watneys red barrel, Starlight (28p per pint, well hammered on under £2 ) I remember a mild beer from the greyhound pub it was so awful that 2 mouthfuls and i puked my ring up right in the middle of the saloon bar.

If i want a real nice lager drink i nearly always go for a german beer as all the mass produced "english" stuff has so many additives used in the brewing process that all i get is a fecking pounding head the day after, one night i had 9 pints of carling draught(usually enough to get me "happy", not pissed) went home nearly sober but still had the hangover from hell next day, so i checked out Uk lager additives:-
Betaglucanase
Ammonia caramel
Rhoiso-alpha acids
Sulphur dioxide
Protease
Amyloglucosidase
Propylene glycol alginate
Silicone
Sulphuric Acid
German beer purity laws prohibit tainting of beer, even with lesser grains like rice or maize....MMMMmmmmm Beer
Some i have to visit the Wine merchants for :-
Shlenkerla Rauchbier (4 Bottles and bye bye balance, hello floor!!)
Päffgen Kölsch
Augustiner Edelstoff

Leffe is brilliant, as is Chimay, but there are different versions for different strengths / varieties.
I like all of them, BUT they are more like a wine than a beer, and they tend to send me to sleep pretty quickly!
