hi there. was just thinking back to my youth and was thinking about an old machine that was in southport fair when i was about 10 so its just under 30 years ago. it was called big ben. it was the only machine i couldn't play in the fair coz it was adults only. i'm sure it was £50 jackpot which was a lot back then. is there any chance it has been emulated or does anyone else know anything about it. thanks in advance

hey scousepark, i only remember a big ben as in a multi-player bandit, where you got the face at the top, or if you got three 0's in the winline, it could give you a win or not.. not sure about the big ben £50 one.. sorry..

and im going to Southport this saturday woohoo! for my 20th birthday lol

although i have found the cheat now on adders and ladders to win the Jackpot and i got chucked out of one of the arcades for doing it..

If I see the snakes flashing I always just mention to the customer that it's a guarenteed jackpot just in case they weren't aware (a lot people still don't realise it is). In fact I point out all invincible modes, seeing as how I'm not allowed to play the machines anyway - and it pisses the sharks off, which makes my day!

Your other theory is, as far as I can tell, complete nonsense, but at least it worked for you 'sometimes' - perhaps the arcade owner threw you out for sharking? I've moved people on for doing it before depending on how they go about it. As soon as it verges on intimidation / harrassment, they are quizzed / warned. Any more and they are out. Nothing wrong with coin counting and that kind of thing, but standing next to players to put them off, misdirecting, e.t.c. get on my bloody nerves. I'd rather see a clueless person have a good time than a shark with a quid in 10ps make the money they expect from exploiting others.

Southport Fair still has the 3 player Big Ben but I doubt if that's the one you thought of as it's nowhere near 30 years old, although most machines there look it

I went there with a colleague for a laugh a couple of weeks back, and the Big Ben didn't pay out, but luckily they just gave us the cash it owed (only £3, I'm completely honest... honest!).
