I currently have an original Only Fools and Horses Fruit Machine which had given me some 10 years plus of trouble free operation. untill now. Each time I turn the machine on it takes about 2-4 minutes before the sound starts to work properly. When it does kick in, it works fine for as long as you play it. Which seems to rule out a speaker problem ? Can you please give me some advise or what to look for to rectify this problem. There are no other problems with it that I am aware off and any advise you can supply would be greatly appreciated, should you require any further info please do not hesitate to contact me. Please reply at your earliest convenience. For info this machine has the spinning dice at the top has a £6.00 jackpot and is 20p a play. I would also like to know if it is possible to get hold of the operating manual for this machine ?

Has the backup battery been changed at any point in those 10 years? Because if not if might very well be leaking.

It can be, but it has probably already leaked and damaged the board - it does tend to lead to this fault.
Can you take out the board and get a good pic of it?

Can you tell me where this battery is located within the machine or is it concealed ? if nothing can be done will i eventually lose the sound all together ? or is it mains fed also

The battery does not power the sound, it just backs up the RAM memory when the power is off.
It affects the sound by eating away at the components and circuit board when it leaks.
It is located roughly in the centre of the big main circuit board, it will probably be blue but could possibly be green, and will most likely say "VARTA" on it.

I have this problem with my S2 machine. A few people have told me it needs the Caps replacing on the PSU, either that or a complete replacement PSU. Also reckon I've got battery damage too as the sounds are all jumbled up. Thing is though the battery looks OK!!

Well my sound was fine at first, then developed the same problem as yours, and now as I said earlier the sound are all jumbled up. It plays the wrong sample at the wrong time. Some are OK still though.sounds play fine after 2-4 minutes but like i said the battery is damaged but is dry where corroded. hope i dont lose the sound altogether. what are your thoughts ?
Unfortunately, I reckon things will only get worse as time goes by.

If it was a blue battery then it will have gassed out most likely - and the gas is corrosive.
So even if it does not look as though the battery has leaked onto the board, it could still have done damage.

Appreciate the advice you have all supplied. Like I say the battery has leaked in the past but know appears dry. Can not see any damage to the board are replacement boards available ? and roughly how much would it cost

I was recently told the reason I may have lost the sound on my Only Fools And Horses mc was the battery had leaked on the board and damaged some components. well the battery has leaked at some point, but now appears dry, and I can not see any damage to the board. do you have any others idea's what the poblem may be. the board is a scorpian 2

1. check the wiring from the board to the speaker.I was recently told the reason I may have lost the sound on my Only Fools And Horses mc was the battery had leaked on the board and damaged some components. well the battery has leaked at some point, but now appears dry, and I can not see any damage to the board. do you have any others idea's what the poblem may be. the board is a scorpian 2
2. probably just the avarge scorp 2 board its not very good on sound
3. the battery could of leaked damaged the board and dried so even though its dried its probably still left perminent damage.
4. your speakers knacker maybe due to the cone spring being burnt or damaged or the magnets become de magnitized
