Rite I would like some advice please. My laptop which is now only 8 weeks old is not working like it should be. First off the the display driver keep crashing causing it to goto a blue screen (see picture) second is the webcam, it is not right at all. When I put it on the picture is very bad (see picture) lines all across the screen. Third, when the laptop is starting up as its loading the screen flashes white and does this until the windows logo pops up then all seems fine. Fourth when I move the lid of the laptop the screen flashes on n off, which it has only done in the last week. And there are some other minor problems to. What I would like to know is if this laptop is as bad as this and is only 8 weeks old, am I not entitled to ask for a replacement? Currys are saying it has to go for repair but tbh there is so many thing wrong with it that i just want a new one. I did try and take it back in week 5, but the store manager said it was a repair job only. Surly tho if it has this many problems I should be entitled to a refund or a replacement. I do remember watching a tv program called don't get done get Dom, and in that he said such items with so many problems should be a simple exchange. Any advice will be welcome.

The goods are of an unsatisfactory quality and under the "Sales of goods act 1979" you are entitled to a repair or replacement.

Just tell them you dont have time to piss about waiting for it to get repaired as you need it because you work from home..and want a replacement right there and then.

Oh..and you craptop is gubbed.

mate the webcams all uglied up with you on it :-p (just kidding) --- If it's under insurance you could always damage it so much that it would be uncost effective for them to fix it ;-)

Storm in there and DEMAND a refund, which you are entitled to.

If they refuse, just say you are going to Trading Standards.

I just dont think that as it has so many faults that I should not have to wait 2/3 weeks for it to be fixed. I just found out that trading standards is only two streets from where I live so will pop down and see them tomorrow morning. Will let you know what happens.

I would take it back and let them have a go at fixing it, its a pain not to have it for 2 or so weeks if that long, but give them a chance to fix it. With all the faults that seem to be wrong with it I would say if you do get it back you will be lucky if it works right, then take it back and demand a refund.
Try emailing Acer direct to see what they say, you should get a reply in a day or two. Let them know all the problems with it they should tell you what to do next. Ive only used Acer returns once and they seemed ok, that was for a TV which they collected and returned with in 7 working days.

Another ACER incident...

I bought one of my lads a lappy for his 18th. He just needed something for messing about on at college. He has my old desktop at the ex-wifes and uses that when at home. Bought the lappy from Comet.

The square pad with the buttons thats used for moving the pointer and doing stuff, developed a crack and eventually, the left hand side button broke. So the lappy could no longer really be used. Ironically, Comet had sent their usual letter saying the warranty ends in 6 weeks just recently, so it's a year old at christmas.

Took it into Comet with the original reciept, they printed a repair reciept out, and took the lappy off our hands for repair. It was away for 8 days and has come back not only fixed, but with a complete new keyboard surround also.

Couldn't argue with the repair and the help from Comet.

Hi

I must say that both my wife and the mother in law both have Acer lappys and have no issues with them at all I have also had 2 Acer LCD monitors again with no issues the 19" one is on the Computer at home and the 17" one is now on the mum in laws desktop PC.

However with all the faults you discribe I would let them have one go at fixing it and if thay dont get it sorted then go for the replacement

Just got back from currys digital and am very happy with the outcome. After talking to the sales assistant for about 40 minuets telling him all the problems he was just giving me the same story as the manager did 2 weeks ago. This time tho he phoned up support and asked them for advice as. They asked what was wrong and he wen down the list of 7 thing that was wrong with it. They still said send it of for repiar. Then the other manager came over as I said i was not happy and I'm on my way to trading standards. With that he said get the laptop out and show me the problems.

So I did as he said and started it up, as the windows logo came up the screen did it's flashy thing and he was lil wow thats not right. Next i put the webcam on and he looked at it and said yup thats defo not right. As I was just closing the webcam down the display driver went and kept crashing till I got a blue screen. He was like "Jesus this is a bag of shit" So after this he said I dont need to see any more and said I could have a exchange. I was happy with this and I said a big thank you. The other manager or what ever he was was not happy as this is the second laptop I have had exchanged but I just smiled at him.

If I had not stuck my ground and not DEMANDED a exchange or said I was going to go to TRADING STANDARDS I think they would just fob you off with having to get it sent off to be fixed. So thanks to Todd and you other guys for your sound advice.

Ok just one small problem I have found since I got the new laptop today. All the web images dont seem to be as good as before. Take youtube for instance. When i was on there home page it was all nice a clear. But if you look in the picture you can see that its not all that good. It's as if the quality of the pictures has been reduced, but it has not. This is the same on IE & Opera web browsers. I have reset them both, uninstalled them and reinstalled them and it dont seem to make any difference at all. Fruit emu front page looks strange to as the shout box seem three times bugger than normal. Even sand looks like poo on my screen lol. If anyone has an idea as to how to fix this problem then many thanks.
