you need an operators license (some 900 for the application and then 1k per year) and they dont need a license as such, they need to pay the AMLD to customs.

Q. What authorisation do I need for the regular sale and supply of gaming machines?

If you wish to operate in manufacturing, supplying, installing, adapting, maintaining or repairing gaming machines after the normal expiry date of your section 27 certificate you must apply to the Gambling Commission for a new gaming machine technical operating licence at least 2 months before the expiry of your certificate.

Operators who did not previously hold a section 27 certificate must also apply for a licence should they wish to operate after 1 September.

There are three types of non-remote activity that can be specified on a gaming machine operating licence: Gaming machine technical (full) operating licence - a non-remote gaming machine technical operating licence to manufacture, supply, install, adapt, maintain or repair a gaming machine or part of a gaming machine Gaming machine technical (software) operating licence - a non-remote gaming machine technical operating licence which only authorises the licensee to manufacture software for a gaming machine Gaming machine technical (supplier) operating licence - a non-remote gaming machine technical operating licence which only authorises the licensee to supply, install, adapt, maintain or repair a gaming machine or part of a gaming machine i.e. NOT to manufacture.

Q. Do I need a licence for the one-off sale of a gaming machine?

You will need to apply for a Single-Machine Supply and Maintenance Permit from the Gambling Commission under Section 250 of the Gambling Act 2005. This permits a person to supply, repair, install or maintain a gaming machine or part of a gaming machine.

The ‘Single Machine Application for Permit Form' is available online and an application will cost £25.

A very useful link is www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk
