Do you know something? I was chatting to a girl at work today about my "dark" days. The days of addiction to fruit machines and she asked me how much I reckoned I'd lost. I couldn't answer precisely although it must have been well into 5 figures, so that got me thinking "why don't I try and work it out using the emulators?".

Okay this may seem silly to some of you but what I've decided to do is equate what I spent on a daily basis back then to playing the emulator games. Most of them are set between 78% and 86%. Assuming that out of every £200 I put through machines then on average I should receive roughly about £160 back in "winnings". I used to spunk probably about the same amount £40 a day on machines in my misspent youth...so what I propose to do is carry out an experiment in January, for the whole month.

I'm going to put £50 through 4 different machines every day (maybe not manage 4 every day...but that's like real life really). If my losses go above £50 then I will stop anyway....as that is the amount I used to take out with me (yes, it was a lot of money back then!!!). I may come back to some machines and play them more regularly than others if I've lost a lot of cash on them (as you would). I'll try and make it as varied as possible playing the old £4 JP's right through to the current £25 JP's. After all, if the payout is 86% then it shouldn't really matter right? I'll play them from their current state and won't reset any ROMS. I will also not try to force any JP's as in my day you took what was on offer....lol. I may have the odd drunken hi-lo gamble but if I get the feeling there's a £2 block then I'll take the cash. In other words, I'll play sensibly.

I'll log on this thread which machines I've played on a daily basis and how much I've won / lost on them.

I'm really doing this to try and find out exactly how much money I frittered away back in the 80's, 90's and early part of the millenium. If anyone can think of any way I can make this more accurate then please feel free to post. Remember, this is only on the emulator so don't worry about me going bankrupt, lol. :)

It would be interesting to hear your thoughts.

That's kinda why I'm doing this mate, part of me doesn't want to know but it needs to be done. I know exactly when I started and when I gave up for good, cold turkey!!! I could probably work it out with a calculator but I thought it may help some others if I post a blog for a month. :)

Well I have to admit that mine is much worse. just in the last three years I have been doing about £300 a week and before that it was £200 a week for 8 years and before that it was £150 a week for as long as i can remember. even when I was doing a YTS I was spending all that in the fruit machines, I think I started when I was 16 and am now 33. I have not gambled in the last few months tho as I had to stop as it was a condition of seeing my son and also I wanted to get rid of this crippling disease for myself. My life is so much better now and I still attend GA meetings every Monday and go on Home Page - Gambling Therapy any people that want help that site is very good as they have live help in the day and one to one too.

Hit your game manager in mfme and scan you fruit machine folders. That will tell you (overall) how much you're in and out and what % every machine put together comes too :)

Yeah, but some of the meters don't work properly, especially with machines by JPM and Maygay in MFMEv1. I will be writing down the totals. Some meters don't work at all in some of the later MPU5 games like Lotta Luck. :)

Tens of thousands, without a doubt. A horrendous amount I know, but I'm just thankful that I'm not adding to it any more!!

Ahh, I don't have machine's in my fme folders that the meters don't work. Have always liked to keep track of the ins and out :)

Use jackpoteers instead ;)

I worked out the figure before and for me it was the best part of £20k, which for a teenager in the early to mid eighties was a lot of money. I applied for loans from the pre-decessor of Ocean Finance and used to steal from my parents and sister to fund my addiction and am not proud of any of it. Posted Image

I was so chuffed when I finally gave them up.Posted Image

I only ever play the emulators now and would never subscribe to an online account now, just in case.

Naaaahh, didn't forget Curlywill, a few things have cropped up the last month or two and I just didn't have time to start. You've probably noticed my lack of posts recently (not!!!). Realised there was no way I was going to have the time. I'm hoping to get this running next month though. :)
