One present I got off Sally that doesn't quite add up. I'm sure a lot of you with girlfriends and wives ect... can relate to this. Sally is forever moaning that I spend too much time on the computer. In the past, it's even come to some serious arguing. Imagine my confusion when I opened one of my presents from here to find 'World of Warcraft'. I told her that me playing that, I'm gonna be pretty much on the computer 24/7. I don't think she knew what she was letting herself in for lol.

Unfortunately for me, being full of cold, I was up at 2am on Christmas morning. Went for a walk for a bit of fresh air and couldn't believe how deadly silent it was outside. It must be the only night of the year were everything grinds to a halt. As even on sundays or bank holidays, theres always the sounds of industry and distant traffic around. It was very eerie to hear absolutely nothing. No cars, no machinery running, absolutely zippo. Just my steps down the street.

It was like that around Barnsley at 7am when i was out looking for a " cornershop" that was open for the Cow&Gate Number 3 that had been missed of the xmas shopping list.
I kept half expecting the post apocolyptic horde to walk around the corner, and with the early morning mist it was very much like a scene from "Silent Hill"...

Doncaster was like silent hill too. 530 am and a strange mist engulfed my neighbourhood. Not a sight or sound until 800am when the kids come onto the street with their new bikes. Same today for me, toys strewn around the living room. Like Beirut lol

i can actually remember the days when the world went to sleep at 11pm...TV shutdown with a "Don't forget to switch off your tv" annoucment at 10.30pm...and the only people around at 1am were the Police and house breakers.....and you would be awoken at 5.30am by the sound of Milk bottles rattling on the electric Milk Float...it used to be eerie trundling off at 6am to do me paper round...no cars on the roads...buses didnt start running until 6.30am...and through the quite you could here the trains rolling on the rails at the Portslade station, about a mile away.....and the only traffic you would see before 11am on Sundays was the church fraternity, roads usually picked up when the pubs opened..only to die down again at 2.30pm...when everybody went home for sunday lunch and a kip..until 6.30pm for the evening session....

Thats strange. I remember the same thing so no doubt it was the very early 80's (1981/2).
My dad worked at a place here in Hull and started at 6am so would get me out of bed around 5am for my morning paper round. He'd have radio 2 on as that broadcasted all night if i remember correctly, but I'd put it onto radio 1 just before 6am and listen to their 'pre-startup' jingle collection. Ironically, I have that same 'pre-radio1 start' jingle set here.:-
There was some errie sights to be had that early in the morning. The beginning of my paper round was to deliver papers in the 19 storey block of flats near the shop on Orchard Park. I'd take the lift to the top floor and always have a peek out of the main floor window. Seeing a blanket of fog across the whole world, looking like something out of a surreal movie or something. The fog would only rise upto floor 10 or so, so looking out of the window, I saw thick fog down below, blue sky and sunshine up above, and the top half of the other tower blocks on Orchard Park poking up through the fog.
You'd see the odd bloke going to work that early, and see the milkman, postman and the odd person taking dog for a walk. Those days with no fog, especially Sunday mornings around 5am, and bright sunshine in mid-summer, and not a soul about, was like a scene from Day of the Triffids.
