This weeks thing to break in my house is the PS3, typically a month out of warranty and I get the black screen.
I have tried all the 5sec reset button lark and still no joy. Tried different HDMI cables etc and still no picture/sound.
Piss bugger arsehole shit f*** fart...........

buy one from a shop, swap it over in the box and take it back demanding a refund lol, done that plenty of times, slightly illegal but it works

You tried the AV output, rather than the HDMI?

Fantastic that mate. Added to my favorites just in case. Read the terms Geddy, this is all you have to do.....Even says on this site:

What if the manufacturers guarantee has already expired?
You can apply for Continuous Play at any time, even after the manufacturers guarantee.
Bloody marvelous.

Are you not getting ANYTHING appear on the screen mate? No message or anything? Sounds like it's your Hard Drive at fault, I had the exact same problem but fixed it within no time, I would not mind having a look at your Hard Drive if you can send it to me?
Have you switched the PS3 off when a game is running or you have been downloading something from the internet on it or when the Hard Drive is performing something?
BIG JUICY MELONS;)

Worth giving sony a ring my work mate had same problem ie out of warranty not same fault his was bluray drive not reading games (he has 60gb one) and they still repaired it free of charge even courier collected it! nothing to lose unless you going to try one of other methods mentioned!

Yeah
i found out after nearly paying £40 to get my psp laser fixed
Waited 3 months claimed & got it fixed
3 months worked out at £7.47
so £7.47 & Still guaranteed by Sony for another 3 months after the repair is better than £40 & warranty void eh?

press the power button till it beeps, then its should beep again and it should bring up a recovery menu, if you can see that you may be able to restore the ps3, if you cant you may have a problem with your leads,, or its screwed, for more info on the recovery menu look here (Click Here)
Hope that helps,

Geddy try the warranty anyway, my mate just had his fixed for a 80010514 error code which turned out to be the blueray drive, I was told that its a thing thats happening with some and they are replacing all of them even if out of warranty.
The guy was talking about sending replacemements even before id given him the serial or the address
Even though his was a week before the warranty expired, id give it a go lol, they sent out a new one and picked the broken one up the same time. whos to say that yours didnt also blackscreen at the same time it was shipped back to them

Cheers for all the help. It is fixed but not sure how. I did take the HDD out and when I put it back in then tried the two beeps thing I got the recovery menu. Had to do a format but luckily not much was lost, like I say I did not play it much. All seems back to normal now.
Not sure exactly what caused it though.... thanks though chaps.
