Right, what's changed since last time?...
Well sound can now be made to work for games with sampled sound, at the minute I am using a workaround till I can fix the sound decryption.
The layout uses wav files at the minute, its something I really wanted to get done in time but didn't. To make your own layouts, use mfme 1.1 or 2.0 and export the samples, just leave them named 1.wav, 2.wav etc. Put these in the folder of the machine layout in the "Sounds" folder. Sound file 0.wav is an empty wav file, simply copy it from another layout as it is a dummy file essentially, its approx 1/100000 of a second of no sound.
Ensure you load the corresponding sound rom too as the emulator gets its timing and other info to make it work from the rom.
Editor, its a lot more stable, there is a possible bug in it which means it will fail to load and I dont know what it is. Just keep a regular backup of a layout and if you experience problems, go to the backup. I didnt have time to find out what it was and it may not ever happen again as it only happened once and Ive done a lot of work since. But you have been warned .
Online mode, should be working, if you "start search" and it doesn't find anything then it probably means you are behind a firewall (port 4000 needs to be open btw) or the host at my end isn't running or has crashed. Host will go online as soon as I finish typing.
Online mode might be buggy, I can only test so much over a LAN, we'll see and I will adjust as neccessary. Its been ok so far tho.
Its MUCH more stable than the last one. The loading times are quicker, there's a new splash screen, a proper load bar, the resolution and gfx settings are working properly, a whole host of little fixes and improvements.
There is now a LITE MODE, if you are finding it all a bit slow then use it, the lamps may flicker sometimes if you do but this can be tweaked for your individual taste, I'll write some proper docs as it wil take some explaining as to whats going on, but feel free to have a play with it. You will find lite mode in the "Empulator Options" > "Options" menu.
For Advanced GFX options I recommend using as high as possible anti aliasing.
If you turn it up too far and it crashes the game, change the "AAIndex" in the "fmef.cfg" file to 0.
To make it work with vista you will need to register the vbdx8.dll. the version 7.dll is no longer required or used. (Available from microsoft site or use google)
Have a play around with it and see what you think, a sample layout is available to download below.
To coin up, make sure the main window is selected and press buttons 1-5 on the number keypad.
FME-Forever Emulator 1.1.0
FME-Forever Public 1.1.0.zip
Pinball Nudger Layout
Pinball Nudger (Empire).zip
I will do more bug fixes during the next week or so and upload asap. Barcrest CHR is well on the way and debugging is in full session.
Enjoy this, it might only be MPU4 again, but its the practise I need to write an emu from scratch, such as sys85, or black box, or castle or something.
It can be a downright p.i.t.a doing this, but theres a lot of enjoyment too.
Enjoy Guitar.

Ok I have the dll file but forgot how to register it. Ithink you went into dos mode was it and you type something in there? Sorry I did google it but the sites with the answers said you have to register to see it.

For the non cross-forum readers...
Ok - so for vista32, download the two attached DLLs and unzip/copy them to
c:windowssystem32
Go to the start menu, type command, find the command prompt icon, right click and choose, run as administrator.
Then type
Code:
regsvr32 c:windowssystem32dx8vb.dll
and press return, and you should see a succeeded prompt,
Then type
Code:
regsvr32 c:windowssystem32dx7vb.dll
and press return, and you should see a succeeded prompt
then it should all work ok.
(Thanks to Pembo for the above)
Edit: You only need to do the version 8 dll. version 7 is no longer used.

Unfortunately it's running too slow on my laptop and PC compared to the previous version (even in light mode) so I've had to give up on it.

Enable TAA, and AF in Display settings advanced to as high as your GFX card allows.
