Zavvi, are in administration (good) but will not be honoring gift vouchers, my friend took her daugter up to the local store she got zavvi vouchers for xmas, she is 7 the guy at the counter said i cant accept these... Sarah started crying and he said will you get her to sghut the **** up and get out the shop. Her man said you cant speack to her like that and asked his name he then said OUT, phone this number she getting nothing in this store. I was never a fan of Virgin Megastores, but Zavvii are the most rudest and insolent members of scum I have ever met. I mean a kid, wanting to spend her xmas, SO GOOD YOU WONT BE MISSED
Sad to see USC, SHUE, going the same way, and I heard someone saying GAME stores have went into receivership.
On a good note i got shelves from Woolies for £1!

If someone spoke to my daughter like that i would of gone off my tits, i would not of walked out that shop without wat i went in for, if they called the police i would of just said that i have the vouchers and if they dont accept them, then thats theft, they took the money in the first place so its owed on the vouchers. so they have gone into addminastration but they are still open for business, so should accept vouchers. god im pissed from just reading this, god knows what them poor people was feeling at the time. my advise is to tell them to go to a dif store and try them in there, if they refuse them, then ask them to ask to see where on the turms and conditons its say they cant be used expect for the valid until date. hope that makes sense.

Couldn't agree more. I'd have been walking out of that shop with what my daughter wanted and the sales assistant would have received the rolled up vouchers inserted up his nose. In legal terms it's not as clear cut as 'we are not accepting the vouchers'.
They're just trying to squeeze every penny out of the business they can and are assuming that a large proportion of people won't claim for their vouchers and even when they do there won't be any money left to claim from. Don't forget that the Zavvi bosses purchased the company from Richard Branson for a quid as it was already in mega trouble.

Just as an observation, why do people buy vouchers? I've never really understood the concept. There are about a million disadvantages to buying them and no advantages (I've never really seen any discount offered, which might be the one reason I would buy them). I can only think that the older generation still think of giving money as a bit 'crude'. One Aunt used to tell me that she would only mail vouchers and not cash in case someone stole it. I reminded her that whether it was cash our vouchers that she would have still have lost her money - Yes, I know that vouchers are numbered but by the time the company have got of their arse to investigate they would have been long spent.
Me and the wife received some once that could be spent in a multitude of stores and then the company who offered them when bust (I think they were called Smiles or something like that). This made the vouchers useless and the shop didn't accept them because it was nothing to do with them as they weren't their vouchers.
To me there's nothing like sending a relative (or receiving) a nice crisp £20 in a card, the universal voucher!

I agree, but people, genuinley bought gifts (vouchers) for friends or family now they will not honour them, as prv this is THEFT, THEY HAVE GOT GOOD PEOPLES MONEY THEY HAVE WORKED HARD FOR
There was no rewason to shout and swear at a kid, the staff member may have been worried abiout becoming unemployed, fair enough, but shouting and swearing at a 7 year old..... I can only say thathe was later sacked instantly for throwing change at someone....
I only hope that genuine Zavvi staff (if they exist) find suitable employment and well for him, he has a long time to think about customer relations when he is on the dole. I was gonna say you may see him selling The Big Issue, but thats too good for him

Sadly, the vouchers are not valid. However, if they were purchased after 27th November then you should get a full refund from the administrators:
Zavvi gift vouchers cannot be used: holders must ask for refund | Business | guardian.co.uk
If you buy vouchers, you're effectively lending money to the company concerned. If they go tits, it's your tough luck (you are effectively an unsecured creditor). This is NOT the case in other EU countries, but more an oddity in UK law.
Anyhoo, hope you get the cash back on the vouchers and also meet the idiot that insulted your friend!!!

i think people buy vouchers as a gift so they know they will buy a gift and not just piss cash up against a wall or gamble it or use it for paying bills or crap like that.

I think though, that with how the economy is going right now (i.e., department stores shutting down, going in to administration, etc), that if anyone has any vouchers on them that you should really go and use them now before these vouchers themselves are not going to be accepted. Speaking of which, I should get myself down to Argos first thing in the morning before even these could close down! lol
Like Duplu says - there's nothing wrong in giving out real notes inside cards - these can be used anywhere (alas, fruit machine change machines too)!

Following the failure of EUK on 27 November 2008, zavvi’s Directors lodged all monies received in respect of zavvi Gift Card / Gift Voucher sales direct by zavvi stores in a trust account. In addition, zavvi ceased selling Gift Cards in stores on 4 December 2008.
It is hoped that all customers who have purchased zavvi Gift Cards / Gift Vouchers from zavvi stores from 27 November 2008 will receive a full refund in respect of these amounts.
Unfortunately, it is not possible for Gift Cards / Gift Vouchers to be redeemed in stores. All customers with unredeemed zavvi Gift Cards / Gift Vouchers acquired (from any retailer) since 27 November 2008 should write to the Joint Administrators at the following address, quoting their Gift Card / Gift Voucher number(s), enclosing the original Gift Card / Gift Voucher(s) and quoting their full name and address for return correspondence:
zavvi Vouchers
c/o The Joint Administrators zavvi Group
Ernst & Young LLP
100 Barbirolli SquareManchester
M2 3EY
email: zavvivouchers@uk.ey.com
We recommend that customers keep a copy of their Gift Cards / Gift Vouchers for their records.
Regrettably it will not be possible to refund Gift Cards / Gift Vouchers acquired prior to 27 November 2008.
All customers with unredeemed Gift Cards / Gift Vouchers acquired prior to 27 November 2008 should write to the Joint Administrators at the above address, asking for their claim to be registered as an unsecured claim in the Administrations.
