Whats all the noise about?
If you dont want to play 70quid jp 1quid a play machines then the answer is simple.....dont play them.
Arcades will still have 35/25/15/5 pound jackpots for you to play if you dont like the idea of 70quid jackpots.
Some of my customers are looking forward to the new machines, time will tell if they are happy with them or not.

Those prophesying the death of arcades are not taking into account that the £1 stake for B3's is also up for review in 2009.
The industry is lobbying hard for the return of the £2 stake. It's going to be the Section 16 gold rush all over again. We KNOW how profitable they were for arcades, it's their removal (or castration into boring B3's) that caused the profits to drop sharply, more so than the smoking ban.

Bring on the £5 jackpot at £1 per play. That'd be fun, and you'd get the jackpot every 7 spins or so minimum :-D.

Can honestly say that the only fun I have with fruities are the 20p/£5jp ones in my local.A bit of play for your money is my key pleasure.

You have hit the nail on the head there deano - the only way to get the playability back is stake to prize ratio
Most people liked the 4.80 / 6.00 20p era
which would be the same as £24 JP / £30 JP @ £1 a go !
funny how no one moaned about that ratio ? and why cuz it gave great gameplay!
Strange !

Not having a dig at you fruitman but......
What makes me laugh is how people used to moan about token payouts and
how they wished they were cash payouts, Now they are cash payouts
people moan about wanting token payouts back.
No wonder fruit manu's dont know which way to turn.

Prize to stake ratios did not have any difference when machines paid out bits if copper tokens which pretended to be money. The payout % was incremented the same way, and the machine paid and played the same way.
People want value for money. £1 a go for a £70 potential win is TOO MUCH RISK!!! This is not a club or casino machine, this is an AWP we are talking about, which ten years ago were £10 jackpot with a 20p stake. The curve upwards toward huge JP's and massive stakes is far far too great!!!
We have club machines already, and there is a market place for those, and for a higher stake to prize ratio - I am that old I remember when club machines were £25JP 5p stake - and thats only 25 years ago!
This curve is too steep - like it or not, the industry knows that last time they did this (only 2 years ago), after the increase revenues dropped 21% - they admit that. Fruit machine manufacture has decreased by more than half in 5 years!!!
Bye bye AWP's, it was a pleasure while it lasted.
Take me to your leader....

As i said earlier noone is being forced to play high stake machines, you still
have the choice to play lower stake machines, like everything else in life, use
what you like using and dont use what you dont like using.
Im sure if high stake machines prove unpopular and take less money then
lower stake machines the manu's will look at making new lower stake
machines as after all they want to make popular machines that sell well

I still think that the smoking ban had a big effect on revenue, I may be wrong but didn't the £35 jackpots start in october 2007. The decline started in July 2007. Also in a lot of the seaside arcades I went in last year in the 21+ sections there weren't many £35/50p jackpot machines anyway!
I know of at least 2 arcades closing in my city centre in the last couple of years.

Ever since the relaxation of the gaming laws, its just been downhill for alot of people. i should know im one of them, lost my job, my home, my mrs and now have a lifetime of debt through playing these machines. ok i accept i had a choice and could have walked away, gambling is an addiction and just like drugs and alcohol can ruin your life. does the government care? NO They just sit back and rake in the profits, line their pockets and sit there thinking of ways of what they can tax you on next. Its a very expensive hobby these days just to have a bit of fun in this world.

two now. lets get started
Right -
First we'll hit 10 downing street, watch that gordon fly, well not fly but shuffle.
Then we'll go through the sewers and kick the houses of parliment's ass Guy Fawkes style.
Then - Buckingham palace, it Will be tricky but with the right skills, it should be a piece of piss, watch those corgis fly.
If there is any explosives left over, we will take the 13.40 P&O Cruiseliner (gotta travel in style;)) over to France and sit back and watch those baguettes fly high into the sky.
Shhhhhhh though, it's top secret.
