What's wrong with the one already around here?

Nothing, except that the emulated slots / fruit machines are not the ones we get in Australia.

Australia is almost purely aristocrat machines and the like, the classic 'fruit machines' like you get in the UK and the Vegas three reel slots are almost non existant here.

Australian law concerning private ownership of aristocrat machines are a joke (disgustingly oppressive to almost no option at all) and even access to the software for 'fun' is kept under lock and key. That includes old slot machines as well (you can't even own one privately in this country without a licence). In fact, it's easier to get a GUN in Australia than it is to get your own slot machine, that's how moronic, corrupt and archaic our laws are here!

The Australian government makes an absolute killing on slot machine tax revenue (in fact, it's addicted to the income) and so in conjunction with Aristocrat, they maintain a stranglehold on access to these machines in any way, shape or form other than what the government can get it's own slice of the action of and whilst Aristocrat in an Australian company, they won't even release the ipod versions of their games in the AU version of i-store for fear of taking away potential customers.

It's a sad, pathetic joke the way the Australian government essentially locks down and bleeds it's citizens and for a democratic country, we're a long, long way behind the rest of the world on rights, freedoms and other similar virtues.

So with that all said, Australian slot enthusiasts are pretty much forced to either waste their cash down at the local to play these machines, or we have to rely on people online to supply software for us to enjoy.

The amazing previous leak of the MK6 emulator from an insider (Indian Dreaming, Atlantis, 50 Lions and Orchid) are the first and really only options for us to experience aristocrat games here down under.

But it also should be noted that about 10 of the MK4 machines have also been successfully emulated to work under MAME, but it's still a long way off solid emulation of the entire MK4 catalogue, yet alone anything more recent.

So until then, Aussies are (for the want of a better term) a little pushy with the emulation community to focus more on the Aristocrat line of games. It's our home grown and what we're all used to and it would be great to see more effort thrown into emulating a much broader range of their machines so Aussies can stay at home and have fun without the bastages in power slipping dirty hands into their back pockets every chance they can get.

So to the people responsible for emulating the Aristocrat line of games and from all Aussie players, I say thank you for your hard work and if you bring us anything more in the land of Aristocrat emulation, you'll have the eternal thanks of the Aussie citizens!

Hence why ANY news of an Aristocrat leak or EMU on the scene has us like minded individuals all over it asking for more info...

None of these games are properly emulated at this stage, including the infamous four MK6 games, since they are only ported from the original hardware or source code. The only games which are truly emulated are the old 8-bit MK2.5 and MK4 games. The other games are either simulated, remade from scratch or online casino games, or even just use modified graphics and sound and hacked into a generic slot game. These online games and hack jobs are entirely worthless for preservation, as are the four ports since they don't contain *any* original code. If you want to see the games emulated, donate some MK5 and MK6 boards (and game chips) to MAMEdev; they can't get a system running with nothing whatsoever to start from.

@ John Galt: My post was towards Aristocrap's comment about 50 Lions, not the site itself, as in the 'emulator' version is much better than any online version could ever attempt to be, since it's using ported code from an original machine.

The MK4 driver is practically complete now, the driver is now just waiting for people to acquire and dump chips and test them out. Unfortunately, the majority of 'our' games are crushed after the machines are decommissioned so there is very little chance of ever seeing more MK4 games, although US states are much more lenient when it comes to using old slot machines as non-gambling entertainment devices. All the Australian highbrows see is $$$$ from making them, and -$$$$ from those who play them. They don't see gaming machines as entertainment devices (as the manufacturers do), or as a grown-up alternative to arcade games, they only see them as a magnet for problem gamblers, and that anyone who inserts even $1 is automatically tarred with the same brush.

I don't see much enjoyment coming out of owning an old decommissioned slot machine, take away any potential rewards given when you win on a pay line and you end up with an utterly boring experience. An arcade machine can give you some for of entertainment value but such games are based on skill not purely on chance, even some of the entertainment value of arcade games is taken away because you are not spending coins and its hard to reproduce that experience you had as a kid when you used to play them at the arcade or the corner shop.

Enchanted forest MK4 works fine with MAME at present.

Arctic Wins though I have not seen.

I know the MAME emulation for MK4 is supposed to be 'done' but to be honest, there's only a fraction of the full suite of roms out there on the web that I've seen to test this out.

Is Arctic Wins even out there atm?

You will need to delete the nvram file before you can do this routine. this file is in the nvram directory.
After it is deleted, start the game
* Key in with the Jackpot Key followed by the Audit Key
* Press PB4, PB5 and PB6 keys simultaneously (Z+X+C keys by default)
* Press Service (default A) 4 times until you are in the Setup Screen, with Printer Pay Limit.
* Press Bet 2 (default D) to change the Jackpot Win Limit. A higher value is better (3000 max)
* Key out both the Jackpot and Audit Keys
You can set the value of the Note with the very last setting in the DIP SWITCHES and if you turn Port 5201 - 5 to ON in FHunter, you can perform the steps above to reset the machine
Coin 2 - (default key '6' ) is to feed credits in with the bank notes.

You can't. The US ones lack the option in the audit menu. Your best bet would be to change the DIP switch settings so the game is in 3MHz mode, although it will spin extremely fast on most games. For those interested, Fortune Hunter and Caribbean Gold work as well, although the latter has garbled graphics due to it missing 2 shape EPROMs and its colour PROM (it should have a solid green background when you set the two colour DIPs off/on). These games don't have a double up feature, but seeing that they play identical to 3 Bags Full and Gone Troppo respectively, it might be just the way the games are designed. The Jubilee MK4 and MK5 versions of 3 Bags Full lacked the double up as well, although I haven't seen these versions since 2007.

MAME 0.143u7 is out. Looks like a couple of Konami games have been added to the Tasman driver, and a new driver created for the later Endeavour/PPC hardware, although at this stage nothing works due to lack of documentation. Apparently, the majority of the later games were incomplete, only having the program dumped (no graphics etc). These drivers were not created by us (as with the MK6 driver), they were added by Haze alongside a bunch of UK fruit machines.

There is no news about the fate of MK5, but an update was submitted last month, fixing the remaining self-test issues, however it was declined by MAMEdev for not being 'correct' enough. Note that the games still crash after loading (with the fix in place) so they still don't get past the boot text into the game screen.

It would help immensely if we could gather a group of Acorn fans to help rebuild the Archimedes driver code inside MESS - the MK5, as well as ertictac and poizone, rely on the base AA code to run, albeit with quite a few tweaks in their own MAME drivers.

The change to the IOC timers 1 & 2 didn't get through which is why the 2khz timer still fails it checks ( the internal timers need a closer look at ).

I think at this point its a good idea to start looking closer at the AA and try to get that working or at least
get the OS booting. The main problem for now is that the arch docs for ARM do not really explain in depth
what I need to know.

This is not a test forum, simply a test post by a new member. Welcome to the forum zestroprfe!

Back on the topic of Aristocrat games, Has anybody noticed that Aristocrat has now released Buffalo Moon for the Ipod? There are now nine games released for the Ipod. These include 5 Dragons, Sun and Moon (AKA Silver and Gold), Geisha, Imperial House, Dragon Emperor, Wicked Winnings II, Firelight, Miss Kitty, Buffalo Moon.

I have also come across two Aristocrat artworks for games which I have never heard of. These are Mammoth Money (1997) which has a Flintstones theme and Jailhouse Rock (1996) which has an Elvis theme. I assume due to the dates that these two games were made for the Mark 5, however I don't remember ever seeing them around.

Re: Miss Kitty layout...

Depending on the region, Miss Kitty (and the original game of this type, Pelican Pete) has several different reel layouts and betting options depending on the version.

For example, the Victorian version of the game costs 50 credits to play all 50 lines. On the 'normal' 25 credit/50 line version, as per New South Wales (1 credit buys 2 lines, not released in Vic but we do have Pelican Pete in both variants), the wilds do not come up as regularly in the free games. It is quite common to have nearly 3/4 of the screen full of wilds on the Victorian 50 version, but on the 'normal' version, you are lucky to get maybe 8 or so by the end of the free games. One interesting point is, the paytable is unchanged between the two variants, so 5 9's are 50 and 5 Fish are 100 on both games, so technically the 25 bet version pays double for everything, but with a lack of wilds to make up for it (I don't know which version came first though).

Unfortunately, it will be a very long time before any MK6 game will be working in MAME or any other emulator - while the SH-4 CPU is emulated courtesy of Dreamcast/NAOMI emulation, the PowerVR graphics chip is not the same as the DC variant, and not emulated.

Emulation has halted on MK5 until emulation of the base Acorn Archimedes system is improved. As Palindrome said earlier, the documentation isn't really helpful with anything not related to the AA itself (e.g. ARM mode switching, MK5-specific stuff etc).

If anyone has any unemulated MK2.5, MK4 or Jubilee MK4 games and an EPROM reader however, feel free to submit them, as most games should work straight out of the box - Australian, NZ and US systems are all supported. If you're in Melbourne and have a YouTube account, see if you can contact Aussie50 on YouTube, he has a dead K.G. Bird (assuming it's Victorian or NSW, it will be a full pay version as opposed to the crippled NZ version, provided he didn't send it back to the tip or put a MOT to it already!). I don't have a usable YouTube account ever since Google f#$%ed everyone over, I refuse to rejoin YouTube or any other Google services. The machine was destroyed prior to picking it up, but the chips/mainboard looked OK (he still has the belly panel glass on his door, even on his latest vids).

Hello All,

I'm brand new to this forum, and to the world of emulation in general.

I got into it by finding Enchanted Forest (my favorite pokie) and randomly slapping around in MAMeUI132.143u9. I finally got it working and am now trying, with no success, to get Autumn Moon, Phantom Pays and a few others, to play.

The Enchanted Forest I'm using is a US version (12xf52890). Its meter set 1 page consists of one column, and the 4th setup screen allows changing jackpot limits etc., as you all know.

All the others I've acquired are NZ versions which boot with the game screen with a "Tilt" and "Metering Error". The first Meter Set screen consists of two columns, with the ability to change spin and credit-count rates (which do appear to work). The instructions I've encountered tell me to press the ZXC keys simultaneously to set the RF/AMT value on the page. I've tried every way from Sunday to make this work, without success. The Audit button does not exit the audit screen, though F3 does, and the screen is returned to the game display with "Call Attendant - Metering Error" message.

So, can someone tell me (us) what the difference is between that one US game and all the NZ roms (the NZ Enchanted Forest behaves the same way as Autumn Moon et al.)? MAMEUI32 lists them as working, but I'm at the end of my rope. I'm spending WAY too much time fighting this.

You folks are vastly more knowledgeable than I, and any assist you could throw my way will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
