How's the emulation coming along? Anything we can do to assist?

I'm very happy you are all doing this.
I'm also happy to pay a donation to anyone who can get it up and running
The MK5 games that is.

With MK5 emulation, it's a matter of documentation and lack thereof.
On the other hand, MK4 emulation is practically complete now that MAME 0.132 is out. All that is missing is sound and inputs. Gone is the 8 colours and green background (seen on the previous pages) and this is what we end up with.

They should all be in the same location as the rest of the new MAME stuff (torrents, P2P, sites from Brazil/Russia/China etc), unless the company has gone out of their way to have them removed (which can happen; unlike the UK fruit machine companies, Big Aâ„¢ most likely would not take kindly to emulation at all and would probably have such sites taken down in seconds - even the 'famous four' games were removed multiple times and they weren't even actual EPROM dumps). Following this...
You are free to use the other topics though, just don't clutter this one up unless it's related to getting a game working further, or you actually have a game/version that isn't dumped yet. That said, the MK5 games are all nothing but a black screen in MAME. The only game which boots (and does nothing else) without hanging is the MK4 Enchanted Forest. You will end up with the exact same picture as above. If I could split this topic into both MK4 and MK5 related I would, but I can't even edit my own posts in this crappy place!
ROM requests in this topic will be ignored, as per the MAME forum.

Because *anything* was better than the pathetic excuses for games made by Pokie Magic (yay, let's rip off the already cheap-looking Stargames machines) and Aussie Slots (no comment necessary here). I originally came here to simply ask if anyone could make a simulation of a real machine, but no-one ever did, even up to today. My only requests were source-available (so I could help make others) and no stupid crippled trials where you have to pay/crack to press the buttons more than 100 times or something!
Look on the net, there is not one single, open source poker machine simulator at all, they are all closed source commercial products or just crappy 1-kilobyte-of-code RNG tests where the odds of getting 3 (three!) jackpot symbols was the same as getting 3 cherries! Because everything of course has have three reels, one line, no features and credit up in stupid amounts like 25 cents to $500 per spin (if the thing even accepts more than a few credits at a time) and always have cherries, bars and sevens in them...
The first thing which changed that was MAME, however the previous gambling games there were just terrible compared to the machines down here! No amount of PE+ games will ever match up to a GU4 machine for instance. The closest MAME ever got to a multi-line poker machine was V-Liner and Meosis Magic, both games are just crap though, and the 8 line 3x3 games like Cherry Master (the only game like this I ever saw in the wild was on the VLC multigame machines - Straight 8 or Super Eight depending which venue it was in). How hard could it be to get a VLC machine running in MAME?

You got to admit Pokie was better than nothing..

There is a bug in MAME's ARM CPU emulation, while other games seem to work (for example Data East games) they're most likely patched whenever it hits something strange. Games in ertictac.c are also patched and this is documented in the source code.
MK5 emulation will most likely need some sort of patching in the driver to get them to actually boot, unless someone up high finds out what's wrong with the CPU core.

heihachi I think i understand a little now... so you could call this a hack patch? I just read ARM is a Acorn chip. but... Mame is assuming and there not sure if it is RUNs of a Acorn. that's the main reason why there/programmer stalling on the MKV emulation. I assume.

The hack in the driver code is there to replace a TST instruction with a NOP ( no operation ) because the logic that is supposed to clear the zero flag when a test condition is met seems to fail. The MK V code seems to have a lot of these instructions executed before a conditional branch to different subroutines, patching all of them doesn't seem to be an option.

I saw a 6 reel enchanted forest today for the first time - it was an MKVI - it looked pretty good...is the MKIV jubilee software compatible with MK540 just as 540 is with 2.5?
