Dont think the VIP was intended to imply the designers status, more that only VIP's could access them until they went on general release...

Duplu's intention was to offer the layouts to VIP's first as a way of thanking them for their hard work and donations. Maybe non-VIP's would start to donate too, so they could also enjoy the extra priveleges. Nothing wrong there at all, and I'm sure Duplu had nothing but good intentions.

AT's intention was to put himself on a pedestal, thinly disguised as a genuine attempt at fundraising. He could have suggested a simple donations thread, but couldn't miss the opportunity to make himself look good at the same time.

That is my opinion on the matter.
Watch out! There's a SIG thief about...

is it the Bandwidth that costs so much money,

Im not trying to be disrespectful, i think the work that duplu does and the rest of the team do is fantastic, however i really cannot see this site costing £1700, a year to run....

Fruitytalk takes about £130 a year and even less if i buy vbulletin for a lifetime subscription.

All i have at fruitytalk is a load of leechers (less about 100 regular good members, some from here that have a look but still dont post)... And it was looking good until fruit-emu hosted the Casino (after someone from fruitytalk said on here, "DO WHAT FRUITYTALK DOES, GET A CASINO) >< .

Ive donated what i want, because i believe in the whole "FME Circle of sites",
But no-one is willing to share the responsibilities.

Id be more that willing to help with bandwith, Which is why i set up fruitytalk.com in the first place, Coz i was mainly a member of Fruitforums before it got bitchy and moderator crazy, and i set up a place to host downloads, because fruit forums dont have that, and i thought i would do it because of that and also "to take some strain from fruit-emu"... As that seems to be happening now, i see i was in my own rights to do that.

What if Duplu stopped hosting the MPU5 and scorp4 files, would that help stop the Major leeching, i dont mind hosting them,

Thats what i was saying about a fme circle of sites, we should share whats on offer, like here could be a Forum and the "Older Fruit machines", as that is what it started out at, the Preservation of older fruit Machines. Fruit forums can remain a bitchy Forums, and ill help with the hosting of the newer machines, as my site is the newest and hasnt yet found "its purpose".

Just a suggestion...

Take it as you like... just trying to help.

you know, i found a way of doing that but much easier, and doesnt force a member to donate.

Its got to be done every month, but as an admin (duplu), can search for inactive leechers during that month, and then stick them in a "Inactive Usergroup"..

This usergroup disallows lots of downloads, and the only things they can really do is post... Which is what fruitytalk needs the most (im using my example here)...

When they become a bit more active, you take them out from the inactive user group, and youve got an active member.

I had loads of Inactive "0" posters... so i stuck them all in here... so they cant leech and not post at the same time.

I might dare stick my neck out and say it was not Duplu's suggestion at all, in fact if you read AT's swearing rant fest it was his idea. End of the day if Duplu wanted donations all he had to do was ask, or ask his staff to ask.

AT's intention was to put himself on a pedestal, thinly disguised as a genuine attempt at fundraising. He could have suggested a simple donations thread, but couldn't miss the opportunity to make himself look good at the same time.

Totally agree and he has done it before. All he had to do was start a fund raising thread if he was so concerned about the site or even God forbid DONATE himself which he has not done according to his member status which going from his rant is amazing.

The whole lack of communication which has caused so many issues over the years has came back. No communication over Union Jackpots, no communication over Duplu's 'need' for help with costs, very little staff communication. In fact the man who seems to know the most about how this place is run is AT and he is not even a bronze member. LIke what you said before - Duplu has been hoodwinked. :bigeyes25:

I know theres a lot of talk about people not putting there hands in there pockets. I have been just a member for quite a few years and really love this site, but some people must understand that not all of us have money, especially me with my child and fiancee. I do not work and we mainly rely on her wages just to get us through the month, even with the credit crunch thing going on, not being able to get a job and try and pay for stuff that is needed. I will be honest with all of you my daughter has got most things kids have and this was not provided by me or the missus, it was provided by her mother, this makes me so angry and depressed because I cannot afford to pay for my beautiful baby girl, and someone has to do it for me,

Do not get me wrong this is not a sob story but this is why I cannot at the minute, make a donation. If something is asked of me as in help with a project or something along them lines I would gladly be obliging.

It's interesting that the only person to vote sod him is beddog22 who has yet to even post since 2006.

If there is a better example of a download leecher or arcade/casino hawk then show me !

I say support him/this place as much as we can. What some cant offer in £££'s they give in advice and support for others - That alone also has its worth. after all you dont have a community if you dont have the members to make that community.

Very good and fair point.

However Duplu to my knowledge has not asked for any donations at all. The assumption by some are that he needs them, I do not think this is the case. (Although they would obviously be welcomed.) It was just a big rant that was made by a non-donator to donate - I can't see Duplu asking at all... :bigeyes20:

Indeed, my status was no longer there - I guess it disappears after a year - which is fine.

Duplu has not asked for any donations, no, but he said he is quitting. Based on that, surely this raises the one question about these forums...

- Who is going to pay for it when he's gone as it's a substantial amount that will be needed?

...this is also based on the hope that he passes it to somebody else.

Surely it's now the case for us all as memberrs to show him as his member base that he is not expected to be doing all the leg work here. To show him that the forums do value him and the cost it takes to run this site.

If all those people who voted for him to stay payed a contribution which actually now would be only £25 this forum would be paid for up to a year.

Although it is his site and he is perfectly entitled to do what he wants with regards to advertising and VIP areas. When the current advertising deals are up - if he so decided - he would not have to renew them to avoid upsetting some of the more delicate members here who have high stress levels. But again, his choice.

To the people that may not like what I am posting, I have thing to ask to you...

What do you think will happen when or if Duplu packs his bags forever here?

Do you not thing it's worth taking a stand to try to get 100% support from a cost point of view for this forum and all that it's stood for in FME?

2 accounts 2 £20 donation's but not to be v.i.p's

its worth every penny to help duplu keep this site alive and to help members of fruit emu to be able to re-live those memories of what fruit emu is all about.

as tesco states EVERY LITTLE HELPS!! if it be bronze silver or gold it all helps out.

I was not referring to you as the non-cash contributor, there was a huge swearing rant fest over in another thread by someone who said everyone should cough up a tenner etc etc although he has not....

Nice to see you posting again... :bigeyes20:

This is always the first site I log onto when I turn on the PC. I'd be thouroghly disappointed should it fold. I don't know the whole history of the scene, but I like all other walks of life, people fall out, people betray each other, people think they know best, others think differently. People make up, people never speak to each other again - execept to hurl insults at each other - the make up again, they fall out out again, they put up with each other, they fall out, they make up again, or they dont'. That's just life. It's a shame that such a wonderful site faces the very real prospect of closing because of some argument that doesn't really affect the site itself or the vast majority of people who use it.

Thats the way I understand it - although I could be completely wrong.

My tuppenny nudgers worth.

As for contitbuting financially to keep it going, I am more then happy to do so, as I have done for the past 3 or four years.
Where you came from, is gone.
Where you thought you were going, was never there.
And where you're at right now, aint no good, unless you can get away from it.
