I opened up my bandit today and to my surprise theres quite a bit of smash in it, so what I want to do now is protect the contents from burglars...

Its got a lock on the bottom door (no padlock there at the moment, but I'll get one), but I've seen in the services that most machines have some sort of bar which goes right across the cash door at the bottom... A massive heavy thing that would probably double up as a cosh!

Anyway, my question is -: Is it safe enough to just get a padlock and be done with it, or should I get a padlock, AND the locking bar mechanism as well? Is it easy to fit the bar mechanism? And how much would it cost? Where would I get one from? And whats the proper name for it?

Cheers!

To be honest its all a waste of time.

If a burglar wants to get in it they will no matter how you "protect" the contents eg through the side of the cabinet.

If for home use my advise is dont keep too much in it and leave the keys in it when your out. OK so your money will go but they wont smash it to bits!

Just IMO of course, if a big chunky padlock is the way you want to go you go for it :)

my question is sharpy

why do u need a security bar if the machine is in your house?

your best bet would be to install steel rollershutters on all your windows and doors :p

like fruity said if someone was to break in your machine they would get in without hesitation by using a jemmy to wench the door open (basically knackering the cabinet up aswell)

you can buy steel cabinets with a rollershutter for machines (used in many clubs)

.....or you could always hire two security guards...one at your front door and one at the back door, your then for sure know that your fruit machine will be safe...unless you have hired two dodgey guards then your f***ed cause they will take your fruit machine in the back of their van when your gone, and any other household valubles plus the money you paid up front to hire them in the first place...oh and your mama's nickers of the washing line.

here you go but to be honest they re a waste of time for your house and are generally only used in high risk sites ie service stations,or also used by some pub chains so they can get cheaper insurance.

Thanks all, and especially thanks to Baz for linking me direct to exactly what I was looking for.

On reflection, perhaps I won't bother... I'm only talking about £200 in the bottom of the machine after all.

Surprised to see that they only cost £10 or so, I was expecting more like £80, although I suppose it is only a metal bar.

I live pretty high up in a gated community anyway, so its unlikely anyone could even get in, let alone target MY particular gaff, and then get the money out of the bandit, but you never know...

Think I was just more surprised how quickly the cash adds up, than anything else.

And that would've all been in someone elses bandit, if I didn't have my own!
