Only partially true, as I've said. FW asked who some members were, in terms of their activities on FE.
As usual something in FME land blown out of all proportion and suddenly it's a crisis and I've sold all your personal details to the devil.
For one, I don't have any of your personal details other than an e-mail address. An IP address alone does not constitute personal information under the Data Protection Act.
I don't understand why people don't just stick to the forums they enjoy. If FW doesn't want someone on his forum then that is his decision and his alone. Yes, it might not be the norm for FME sites but it is his forum.

If you wish to use IP addresses to identify or build a profile on each of your visitors as an individual, even if they are never identified by name, you should assume that the Data Protection Act applies. The safest course is to assume that the Act does apply in these circumstances. A court will be influenced by the Information Commissioner's guidance on this point. Therefore you should make visitors aware of your intentions to use IP addresses and, where possible, gain consent before processing an IP address for these purposes, for example, via a data protection notice.
In 2001, the then Information Commissioner, Elizabeth France, acknowledged the difficulty of using IP addresses to build up personalised profiles. "It is hard to see how the collection of dynamic IP addresses without other identifying information would bring a website operator within the scope of the Data Protection Act 1998," she wrote.
She continued: "Static IP addresses are different. As with cookies they can be linked to a particular computer which may actually or by assumption be linked to an individual user. If static IP addresses were to form the basis for profiles that are used to deliver targeted marketing messages to particular individuals they, and the profiles, would be personal data subject to the Data Protection Act 1998."

I think it is fair this sums up 'our case.' IP addresses have been cross referenced along with emails to build a profile. In other words to compare to see if the 'profiles' (usernames) are consistent across two separate web sites. Obviously consent had not been gained nor was a data protection notice issued.
So it looks like static IPs alone are covered by the DPA. However in the case of Fruit-Emu/Fruitworkz we are told that IPs AND emails have been crossed checked to for all intents and purposes perform profiling of usernames and forum accounts. This definitely by description covered by the DPA and thus what has happened should be considered a breech.

The Abyss - Reserved for threads which have veered to far off-topic and have been un-retrievably lost!
How does this thread meet that criteria? In fact it appears to be more on topic that any other thread bar releases on this site?
Why was this moved? It is on topic or is it more 'special treatment?'

OK.
Over the past few days we have had a couple of accounts that clone the user names of long standing members both here and on other forums.
Oddly enough it seems that the individuals who tried to do that are now protesting and attempting to argue about it in email (sheesh I wonder who that could be).
are who they claim to be[/B'] which is slowing things down somewhat.
If you are a member of here and open an account I'll simply pm you to verify it is you before I activate it. I am trying my hardest to protect people completely and as the law states. The last thing I want is someone going off the rails on a forum I own (and Duplu hosts) and starting trouble for completely innocent people.
too. Another reason why we now must waste more time ensuring our members are safe and their details are kept safe.
This is not being performed to play "Where's Wally". As I am sure you can understand being an owner of a forum depicts certain responsibilities.

I'll repeat it again for the hard of hearing: 'No IP addresses or e-mail addresses have been passed from Fruit-Emu.com to Fruitworkz.net. If you are paranoid and would like your account here deleted send an e-mail to webmaster@fruit-emu.com and it will be done.
