Hi;
How do you know what stakes a vivid/barcrest can be set at.
I have a vivid connect 4 machine but can only play it on £25 jackpot and 30p when no stake key is inserted into the game card.
I received a stake key with the machine which has 8 switches on and have set it at various conbinations but all i ever get is invalid key displayed on screen. the only way i can play the machine is to take the stake key out.
Could it be possible that the machine only works with static stake keys not switch ones??
or the game card does not have any other stakes loaded apart from default (£25 and 30p play) when no key is inserted is this possible?
I cant even set £25 and 30p play on the stake key which seems strange.
I know you can set the machine to other stake settings as i also recevied decals for £5 jackpot.
Thanks in advance for any help given.

if your machine keeps coming up with invalid key then your software within the machine is not compatible for switching or the key is fooked

When you say it is not compatible for switching do you mean its not compatible with a switching key? would it work with a static key?
Regarding the software is this held on the game card that you can take off of the mpu5 board? if so can the game software be changed?
Thanks

first answer to your question is: its either gonna be a software issue or the key is faulty but u could try a standard key key to find out.
second answer is: yes it can be changed but i don't really see the point in changing software if the key is fooked and unless the software is compatible to accept change then i wouldn't bother faffing about tbh

Have you tried test mode(door open) with the key out,if it is capable of being set at other stakes/jackpots it should give you the option to set the stake/jackpot,- if it does, then either the settings on the key are wrong, or there's a problem with the key.
If it does'nt give you any options to change the settings, then the roms are probably fixed at that stake/jackpot.
Dave.

dave door open mode will allow any setting but as soon as door closed is activated it will only allow what is programmed in the software

I'm reasonably confident that Connect 4 should support
£5 Jackpot @ 5p/10p/20p/25p/30p
£25 Jackpot @ 25p/30p
It may also support the £8 Jackpot if required, I assume it's the same as the £5 Jackpot, and only the jackpot amount would change. To be fair though, I don't like £8 Jackpot machines![:D](http://www.fruit-emu.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
Does sound like the switchable key *might* be faulty - but are you sure you are trying to change to valid stakes / prizes (the ones I've listed above?).
If you didn't get a list of stakes and prizes settings, they can be found on the forums, I reckon searching for 'stakes and prizes' will find them.

Thanks for the replys
when you have the door open for free play and take the stake key out it allows you to choose different stake settings but as soon as you close the door you loose the setting which to my understanding is normal thats why you need the stake key.
I believe I have used the correct stake setting for a 8 switch key unless vivid/barcrest have different settings to the attached?
