The back battery is pretty much a legal requirement, as without it the machine would forget how much money had gone in / out every time it was turned off.

This would mean the machine would never be able to maintain a long term percentage payout, and it would pay out erratically. Machines would be completely dead every day, because they wouldn't have accumulated a 'pot' from which to offer prizes.

It's no different to say a games console cartridge having a backup battery inside it to hold a save-game in volatile memory. If there were no batteries inside say a Gameboy cartridge, every time you removed the cartridge, you'd lose all of the save-games.

yes the machines can work without the battery but its not in the favour of arcade owners if they are not replaced, its not a legal requirement by law for the battery to be changed.

all batteries have a max lifespan of 3 to 5 years maybe longer if your lucky

machine batteries can be bought from any local maplin store and are piss easy to replace with use of a soldering iron

While it's not a legal requirement per-se, if you had an issue with a machine and the Gambling Commission got involved, I'm sure they'd not be impressed.

It probably wouldn't impact much on a £5 jackpot machine say, but a clubber? It would be literally impossible to win a jackpot from a clubber with no battery.

ben not been funny m8 but its not a legal requirement weather the gaming commision involved or not.

its not against the law or against the gaming commision poilcy for batteries to go down on machines.

if in doubt please feel free to contact the gaming board about this matter

the only time u need to worry about the gaming board is when u have m8's round to play it and the gaming board find out this is happening and kick ya ass and confiskate the machine

i believe it is a legal requirement on machines that were made after last september as all new machines also had to legally have a real time clock fitted within the mpu.the real time clock would not work without a battery fitted.

Then I guess most BFM clubbers are shipped without a battery

As stupid as it might sound, we've had a local club with several BFM machines which didn't pay out a single jackpot.

Bullseye was the last one.

Who is to say that it didn't have a battery? Would your average machine player ask to see evidence that the machine was keeping a RAM backup?

Pretty scary when you think about it. Without a battery, I reckon a clubber (BFM especially!) could take far more than the normal 28% (the ones out here tend to be 72%) they are supposed to - and how would the punters know?

Look at the emulated BFM clubbers esp two towers, the rediculously high blocks etc. Can take THOUSANDS to get it even close. Shocking to say the least.
