Hi all my pc has just downloaded internet explorer 8 from my windows update as an important update. Its installed and i restarted the pc then when i clicked to go on the internet a box kept coming up saying internt explorer has stopped working close the programe. I've tried allsorts but to no avail so i've done a system restore to get rid and it's working fine again now:wacko: Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem with IE8.

No problems with IE8 itself tommy because i refuse to install it..probably nothing wrong with it and i dont doubt its speed and security issues have been dealt with..but it just looks utter shit, and when ye type..all sorts of URLS come up..whats that all about ?
I did notice the other day my windows updates was telling me i had 2 'critical' updates..IE8 being one of them..very sneaky by microshite.
Meant to do a thread about it but must have forgot about it.

If you go into Tools>Windows updates tommy rather than let the wee yellow thingy appear in your taskbar..and let it check for 'critical' updates and the ones that are ticked..untick them IE8 obv and then click the 'do not offer this update again' or similar and it wont keep popping up on you.

Have you tried downloading it manually, like I did from Microsoft website itself? I downloaded it as soon as it became public from Microsoft, and downloaded it from their website, not from my Automatic Updates. Try installing it manually, see if it works like that.

Not prying or being cheeky tommy, but are you using a 'real' windows vista or a 'borrowed' one. If you are using a 'borrowed' one, then perhaps the malicious software and genuine Microsoft cookies might be stopping IE8 from installing properly.
I am not saying that anyone uses 'borrowed' Windows, but this is one of the problems that using a copy might do, from what I have heard! Mine's 'real' so I haven't any problem with the updates.
If you are using a 'real' Windows Vista tommy, then I really cannot help you any further mate, but if you are using a 'borrowed' Windows Vista - don't be tight and get out and buy one!! lol

"borrowed" or not has eff all to do with it
my copy of xp is "borrowed" and yet IE8 runs perfect
and so does WMP 11
only bad thing is i cant update to sp3 as some of the reg keys for the serial code are edited & wont let it install

First off, you could check the event viewer to find out why IE8 stops working, get the error code involved and check it from there (If you dont know, orb,all programs, accessories run, type eventvwr). Also check Service pack version etc. I have known computers to continue updating without a service pack installed, should be on SP1 Ver 6001. Works fine with mine (on experimental SP2).

Hi i installed it again last night to see if was any differant but still the same there is no error code it just says internet explorer has stopped working close the programe. So i've blocked it from offering me an update of it again.First off, you could check the event viewer to find out why IE8 stops working, get the error code involved and check it from there (If you dont know, orb,all programs, accessories run, type eventvwr). Yeah the thing is with it that it just looks crap..too fussy, too in your face, too much going on with it,too yukky.
I know im like..ok its a bit different get used to it..i just dont like change..however ive spoke to a few peeps that dont really give a toss what browser they use..and when i mentioned IE8 they goes..'aye i had that what a load of crap..uninstalled it pronto'.
Was quite impressed with the new beta of FF might change to that when its released officially.
Mmmmmm...Sandy ive 'ad her ye know.
