Just got this off eBay, Astra's Double Cash. It's a tad newer than what I'd normally go for but I couldn't resist the tiny bar top cabinet.

It took a bit of tweaking to get everything working properly again and it seems to run great! :)

Now, does anyone happen to know what the two banks of dip switches do in these Astras? I've worked out that Sw2/7 controls demo mode and it won't finish setting up if Sw1/4 isn't on. Any ideas anyone?

Very nice Tris - I agree with what you said about the "a bit too modern for me " and to be honest I wouldn't mind one of these myself!!

Now all you need is a few of the lads around to fill it up for you. Result. :)

I wish there were more machines this size, id buy one in a heartbeat. I live in a loft conversion flat and the ceiling is too low for a full size machine. :(

How much was it?

It was £166. Not bad I suppose considering it was sold as spares or repair yet it was complete and working. This was the second time it was listed, the first winner won it for over £200 but didn't pay up!

It needed a little work though...

> Reconnect a loose cable in the hopper
> Reverse a plug on the MPU
> Flick dip sw.2/7 off to disable demo mode
> A few new bulbs
> Clean up leaky battery mess
> Apply coincell mod
> Strip reels, clean and re-assemble

I'm currently running it on 25p/£5@96% - I wonder what the eventual streak will be like!

Will do but I don't think I'll be parting with it for a while yet! It does do some great runs on the Bars & Jackpots. Not long ago it let 'em spin for a jackpot and held three times for a total of £60. The last Bar run it gave me was £30. Sure can suck the rest of the time though!

According to Astra themselves, this particular model didn't sell in great quantities and not many were made. They no longer supply the parts either, a shame as I wanted the bolt-down turntable!

Ha! I owned a Big Ten a few years back. This one would be too similar for me.

These Astra games are great though. My Triple Bell get's plenty of play.
