I have seen lots of sites on teh net that can sell me a fruit machine for my room (Thinking it will help save money) and i have also noticed people on here selling them. Do you guys use the same supplier for your machines or are you just in the right place at the right time to get one from mates?
I am looking for a newish machine but don't want to spend heaps of cash on it.
Any ideas or suggestions where i should buy one from?

The obvious one is the old ebay........There are dedicated suppliers though--you'll find them by looking at Google etc.......
My machine I bought from the local paper if you live in or near a big city they are also worth looking at.

on e bay you can sometimes just get lucky with a good bargain. the only prob. is collecting it from wherever. keep an eye out for ones that have delivery included in the price it'll save you a few bob. don't buy one new if ya see a decent one second hand. if ya get sick of it and have to sell it on at least you might get back what you paid.

Even saying that there is a national delivery fee of £40 for a standard machine---so you can still have a good chance of that bargain even without delivery included (which is quiet unlikley), this topic has been covered in a previous post.

I bought my machine from ebay, it cost me £35 for van hire and £15 petrol. One little tip if your picking it up yourself is be sure that you have one of those little trucks to move it around on because they are bloody heavy things.

Too right about the weight of these things. I picked up my third machine about a month ago from York. It's a PROJECTS Jackpot 7's from around 1991. I got it off eBay and knocked £60 off the price the seller was asking after he couldn't sell it after 2 listings. I think it's well worth the money. There is a bonus with the machine and that is if Projects machines eventually get emulated, I have the origional £4.80 version roms. These machines are still about but have been heavily chipped over the years. I think they are 5p £5 JP now.

I still think my method is the best :)

1) Have some idea of the sort of machine you want - don't get lumbered with a machine which you don't enjoy playing!!

2) Find a copy of Yellow Pages - or you could even try http://www.yell.com

3) Go to Amusement Machines

4) Call the suppliers. It WONT mention home use machines in any advert, but if you mention Home Use machines when you call I would be amazed if they had nothing for sale.

5) BEST BIT ABOUT MY METHOD :) As the suppliers are in your Yellow Pages - they will be REASONABLY local. If they supply to pubs in the area, they will sometimes do free delivery :)

6) Arrange to meet them at the place the machines are held. If possible [although I admit I didn't yet at any I have been too] ask if a machine you are interested in could be powered up.

7) Don't forget to shop around - its a reasonable outlay of cash and the last thing you want is to pay a lot for a reasonable condition bandit one week only to find that an absolute minter went for £50 less from another company :)

8) Enjoy your crazy moneybox -

Spiker the Biker - purchased approx 3 weeks ago -

Hopper = £125 [full float]
Cashbox [£1] = £173
Cashbox [mixed non pound] = £57.40

I'd like to see someone save that much in a normal piggy bank :D:D

P.S Amount saved depends on severeity of addiction to flashing lights - and seeing as how I am a total moth every time I walk past I chuck some more of my wages in :)

Thanks for all the replies. I just remebered that there is a place just up the road a bit that sells arcade machines. Well last time i was there it was 3 ears ago but i may give them a shout. I used to work at the beach amusment arcade in aberdeen. I was running the 3d motion theatre (trying to pay of gambling debts, 3 jobs eek) The owner said that if i wanted a machine from the basement them £20 would do the job and i could collect anytime. I wish i had some cash at that point, aarrgghhh

Always a good idea to ask in the local arcade as well, I managed to pick up some bargains from mine over the years
