The machine is a Global Games - Bat Outta Hell (2002) that I brought of eBay. It is an ex-pub machine and the seller has said that he would not advise me touching about inside the machine.

I have purchased this item

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130316660937&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&salenotsupported

that should work in my machine, I hope. The seller has given me this information.

Question:

Dear bazbrazil,

Baz thanks for the fruit machine, i have had nothing but fun.

I have a question about installing a stake/prize key. Do I remove the old one and replace it with the key?

So im not sure what to do in terms of placing this item into my machine. I have found the stake board near to the hopper with an item attached under the % key.

If any of you can help with this in detail, and tell me if it's a good idea I would be thankful.

It can make the machine alarm and give an error if you change the price of play key to the wrong value. However, if it does then to change it back you just put the old key on.

Be aware that when you change the stake you may (more likely than not) reset the machines percentage so it will start again at 0 in 0 out. When you reboot the machine after putting in the new key you will get an alarm to say it has reset the values / got a new price of play key. To clear the error simply reset the machine.

Sorry for all the questions, i am not that advance with these machines. So will it still payout, or will that become a thing of the past?

I think that the reason they recommend you don't change settings is simply because 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it!'.

There have been threads on here in the past where people have bought machines, and changed the wrong switches (e.g. switches on the mainboard which are for machine settings, not for stake and prize) which have caused issues for both supplier and owner, trying to correct mistakes.

Sorry for all the questions, i am not that advance with these machines. So will it still payout, or will that become a thing of the past?

It'll play differently for a while - could be for better or worse. Some machines play well from a RAM reset, presumably to suck punters in when a brand new machine is released - others will be dead for a while before the machine thinks it can afford to pay out.

AS LONG AS YOU MAKE SURE THE MACHINE IS TURNED OFF BEFORE CHANGING THE KEY - you should be OK :)

I hope you don't mind me asking, but what change are you hoping to achieve? £25 will only handle 25p/30p per play. If you wanted something cheaper per-play, say 5p/10p/20p, you would have to drop to £5 Jackpot - and that would require the payout graphics (decals - basically plastic inserts) to be changed as well.

Anyway, good luck with the machine, hope it provides plenty of enjoyment for you and acts as a good moneybox :)

It's on 20p/£25? Are you sure?!

Well, I'm confident that with a switchable key (or a moulded key set to £25/30p) it'll handle that.

Yeah, 20p/£25 is a rare one. I've had £15/20p in the past (which was fair, considering you could play 10p/£8 hence 20p/£15 was basically doubling up), but 20p/£25 is weird.

To be honest - are you sure you want to change from 20p? I mean for home-use it's not that important, 20p will give you more spins for your quid, albeit the trade-off being a slower game, more spins between boards...

Very doubtful, 50p was reserved for the £35 Jackpot when that came out (loads of machines offered 30p / 50p (enhanced game)).

To be honest, 25p > 30p doesn't seem worth the effort (even though there is very little effort), but it may well clear the RAM, and as said above, if that causes a factory reset, lord knows how it'll play :)

It's your choice though, if you are confident you want it on 30p (man, think of all those 'ADD 10P TO PLAY' messages!) then go ahead - you can't 'break' it as long as you make sure the machine is off and do it properly, but you can make it play differently until it's settled down.

You have nothing to worry about mate, when people say it will play differently it's only temporary. When you change the key the machine will start from "new" so to speak, it could play well it could play shite  but for example after say 100 quids gone into it, it will go back to normal.

It can take more than that... sometimes a lot more than that :)

Still, it's a long term investment. Have a tinker around. Some of my machines I changed the stakes / prizes week in week out!

I had my Monty Python on £25/25p when it arrived. Tried it but didn't like the additional blocking the £25 re-chip had... so I knocked it down to £15/25p. Then I upped it to £15/30p for a faster game... then knocked it down to £15/20p for a slower game... then in the end I stuck it on £5/10p - due to the nature of the machine, it was kinda like a £15 jackpot anyway, because it often saved up for £15 streaks on the £5 setting (often giving say Super Cash for £5 then repeating twice).

Experiment - you've bought the machine, see what works for you - just don't be surprised if it plays worse for a while when you change the settings :D

Shock Horror! The machine is fine, i have it on a £25/10p setting at the play is as normal. The mem. did reset and had all the alarms going off!
