Yes, jam some newspaper up the payout chute, that should work!

...open machine up and disconnect the wires that lead to the hopper.
...or turn percentage down.
...or dont take wins.
...or dont play the machine.
...or sell the machine.

I think the easiest way to stop it paying out would be to set about it with a sledge hammer:D

what machine is it ??
try opening the bottom door and when the machine has finished starting up just press the start button and it will go into free play
EDIT
oh its an EPOCH i was think of trble top for some reason lol
im not too sure on this tech if you can get it into free play with the top door open just unscrew the door switch so that when u close the machine the switch isnt depressed and it still thinks its open
used to do that on my JPM crazy club

Basically you'll want to ensure the percentage is set to 70%, and then eventually it should balance out. It might be happy when you first get it - when my Spiker the Biker arrived it paid out a huge amount for a start, and then balanced out and played as you'd expect.
To be honest though, unless it's set to something stupid (70>84% being 'normal', so say 92% being stupid) I'd just keep playing it, and eventually it'll be fine
Is this the machine you changed the stake on? If so, that might explain why it's paying out so much - it's a bit dishonest, but some machines play really well from a reset - perhaps to 'entice' players when a machine is first installed in a new site - if it plays well when it's first played, it'll lead people to believe it'll always play that well.
Assuming it's the Treble Top I'm thinking of (and it's probably not!) then it's an Empire games machine on Barcrest MPU5 hardware. As such, the percentage key will be sticking out of the programme card, mounted in the MPU5 board on the inside back of the machine.
It'll either be fixed (a coloured 'plug'), or it'll be variable (4 little switches mounted on a small circuit board sticking out of the socket).
Let us know what sort of key it is - hopefully if it's fixed, it'll have a value stamped / printed on the back of it, facing you!
