What are the thoughts of the forum on this subject? Having seen many docus etc and realising that that 'free personality test' shop on Deansgate, Manchester was in fact part of this, IMO, cult, I just wondered what, if any, the opinion was here.

I went in to one with a friend once to stop him being taken advantage of and indeed it's 100% a cult - I have also read a lot about it and seen some good documentaries (not that there are many as they sue anybody who says anything negative about them). If you want to see a skewed history of anybody watch the short video about L Ron Hubbard section on their website - I have never seen such glorification and edited biography on such a racist/ sexist/ lunatic in my life (except for my own facebook description of course). Some of the truth about him can be found places like - here - Scientology founder L Ron Hubbard exposed as a 'fraud' by British diplomats 30 years ago | Mail Online

Although I find them dangerous and most definitely a cult (the fact they have been denied tax exemption in the UK and been banned in many countries says a lot), I personally think they are no more dangerous than the temple of the sun, Christian "Renewal" centres or Islam... I suppose it all depends on how you look at it. I believe that they should have the freedom to recruit (but not brainwash) and no religion/ cult should ever attain tax free status in this country.

There are so many descriptions of them on the web, but I like this one - Scientology - however measure that against their own description - Church of Scientology International: Religion and Spirituality, What Scientologists Believe to gain your own opinion.
